My Amazon Kindle just died.

Post by Chuck »

Yesterday I had just finished a book purchase from Kindle - Game of Thrones $6 - & hit the 'Back' key to return to the menu to turn the 'Wireless' off. The intention then was to continue reading the book I was already into.

Nope.

Little half circle kept circling for ages... went for about 10 mins, tried hitting other command keys to no avail so eventually I hit the 'Off' switch.

Now it won't even turn on.

Tried connecting to 240v - justin - where it charged the battery but still not turning on.

It's one of the earlier models - no model # - but it's the larger screen... around 200 x 104.

Any ideas?

Mine did that, I left it on charge for a full day and it came good. Mine wouldn't change pages, then wouldn't completely shut down, then it wouldn't do anything, but the full day recharge seemed to sort it out. I believe there is also a reset button some where but I'd leave that as a last resort as you may loose the list of books you have already read. Mine did that and now I start reading a book and then I start to predict what will happen next, then I realise I've already read this one, either that or it's such an obvious plot it wouldn't hold my interest anyway
Love the Kindle, it knows what page I was up to most times, but it does loose that if I keep ignoring the flat battery signal till it really does go flat

Use it as a frizbie?
Can the battery be removed Chuck? Sometimes you need to remove the battery & hit start on these electronic gizmos to drain the CMOS chip. (memory)
Does it have a reset pinhole?

Terry, will give that 24hr charging a go.

Bruce, too bloody heavy for the frizby trick & whilst the rear cover does not go all the way to the top & therefore indicative of possible removal - have tried various methods of pressing & sliding up/down without any luck. No apparent reset pinhole just the charging point at the bottom & a cable connection point at the top.

Might have to email Amazon... see if they might send me a freebee new one... this ones only about 7 years old. :? :D

Here you go Chuck, the voice is a South African male, not quite as annoying as a full blown yank voice, but after you have worked with a few it can set your teeth on edge  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXj8PuYYY4Y

I do all that Kindle thing on the free Kindle Smart Phone app. Have read my last 100 books that way. For those who think the phone is too bright, choose sepia in the colour and keep the brightness down, it's like reading off paper - both changes can be made within the Kindle app settings.
