Caravan hints, tips and trick

Post by T1 Terry »

This one is courtesy of Peter (Pet-els) and the bugger sent in a format that I can't just cut and paste, so I've gotta type each bit so it will be one of those slow release things  There may be a bit of writers licence involved, see if you can spot it ;)

Hint 1) Unplug the trailer is you have one of those hungry 12v fridges and you are going to stop for a few hrs, see hint 8 if you forgot this tip, better still, get your local auto sparkie to install an ignition powered switch or motion switch

Hint 2) Gaffer tape will fix everything... unless it's an electrical problem, refer to hint 8 for electrical problems

Hint 3) look for the simplest fix first. For example, if the fridge stops working, instead of reading the manual for hrs and removing plates and panels checking voltages (see Hint 8) Look in the cupboard where the fridge plugs in, turn the switch back on and carry out a search and destroy mission on what ever hit the switch and caused it to turn off I the first place

Hint 4) Bikes are over rated, either walk or drive. If you must carry a bike, don't attach it to the back of the van if you want it to remain your bike (sorry Peter, couldn't help myself)

Hint 5) G forces inside a caravan or motorhome defy logic and science. No matter what precautions you take, cupboard doors will still open and spray the contents violently within the 4 walls of the van. Fridges are not immune to this phenomenon, nor are wine casks  If more than one person is travelling in the same vehicle, draw straws as to who opens the door first
