I have the alternator set point voltage at 14.3v
? Does this mean that even when the battery is fully charged it will continue to put out 14.3 volt?

Re: Alternator Set Point
I would think so. It will hold the voltage at that level. The battery will also be at that level. (by then)
Once they are 'level' no charge would flow.
I guess to prove it you could place an amp gauge in the wire and see ?
Of course as soon as you stop charging the battery will quickly drop back to the 'settling level' of a 12v battery. (of whichever type/make/brand it is.
You wouldn't want to hold it at 14.3 if you had a crook cell in it though!!
That's my understanding anyway.

Re: Alternator Set Point
Yes Bruce, thanks. I am unsure if this Alternator will stop charging at any point, the manufacturer is short on supplying information.
This charge is measured by the PL40, but Kay is reluctant to go check the meter while we're driving, and to get her to use the clamp meter while I drive , and she hangs off the back bumper bar is less likely
The Solar takes over when stationery, but I could perhaps check it at night.

Re: Alternator Set Point
I'd give you a lend on my Victron but I might not get it back!
I guess the amps that the alternator would/could put out would be beyond what a Watts Meter could handle?
http://www.powerwerx.com/digital-meters ... poles.html
For an example but cheaper are around.

Re: Alternator Set Point
Talking about battery's again I have disconnected the solar from the battery's and they are sitting on 12.6V for 3 days now .
Same whilst on our trip as the sun went the battery's did the same 12.6 overnight . Fridge on all nite as you would expect plus herself watching telly for about 2/3hrs.
Comments .
Bernie .

Thanks for the offer, I'll find a way. I've got a few spare dollars at the moment
