Motor Home/Caravan Radio channel

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Motor Home/Caravan Radio channel

Post by Kelvin12 »

Morning all,

Before I go to the trouble of painting on the radio channel number on the back of the bus can some one tell me the appropriate channel. Thanks.

Dirk I suggest you put Ch 40 on it as most truckies use that channel.
If there's a floodway or an accident up ahead you will find out better on that channel. (Pacific Hwy is different I think?)

If anyone comes up behind you on the CMCA channel they will see your sign & flip to 40 & if for a long chat "go down one" as they say! (or 2 if that one is also busy)
To be honest after my recent trip up North it became obvious that even trucks don't 'chat' much any more.
I found on long lonely roads without much traffic even the truckies liked a chat. eg from Hay to West Wylong.

I am a bit confused by the last 2 sentences Bruce, they seem to be at odds with each other ?
I have found around Brisbane the airwaves on 40 are just full of profane stupidity, you need to get out a bit for a little less hair curlers and any sensible discussion.
Seems to me 40 is the main one but even truckies on the main highways these days don't rave on as much as they used to
You will soon get sick of having it switched on 40 around the cities, you get all the idiots in their tippers thinking they are real truckies
If you put a number there you will basically have to have it on, that will soon get boring
I only use it now to ask the 60 tonne B dub behind me "at what point would you like to pass sir ? "

I removed the number from our MH. 40 is the trucker channel and when on the open road I simply leave it on that or set the radio to scan. Either way you will hear what is going on around you.

I just have ours on 40 except in the cities where you get the wankers seeing who can be the foul mouth of the day. Hear some funny stories when the real truckies have a chat :) Never put your name on your rig though.

Channel 29 NSW Sydney to Brisbane
Channel 40 elsewhere.
Channel 18 is the dedicated RV channel

Yes William it did sound a bit whishy washy....
What I was trying to say was that on busy highways with a lot of trucks in both directions there wasn't much "g''day mate" stuff at all but once on a lonely road with little traffic it was much easier to 'haveachatmate' stuff.
I'm guessing on busy roads it was harder to work out who was trying to contact who. Once you specified the particular truck (trucking company) and what direction it was going you did get an answer.
I also found the little handheld units a bit hard to hear. If I went again I'd plug in extension speakers & mount them near my rt ear!

Was trying to avoid the local morons on 40 who can't get passed using the "F" word every second word. Seems things haven't changed much around the big towns from the old days. Thanks for the info crew.

There are 2 different channels where the Pacific Hwy and New England Hwy come together around the Newcastle area. The reason I was told was to define which road was being talked about as both roads are in an area where they can pick up each others broadcasts.
