Grey water smell .

Post by BernieQ2 »

Thought I would start a thread about this rather then where we was talking about it .
Now what I was asking is how do I reduce / remove the smell from the grey water tank .
Putting chemicals in may be a good idea WHEN your mobile , but as I was camped up and couldn't move to a dump point how do I stop the smell .
I seen on another forum one bloke who has/ will install a water trap . Will that work ?
Do others have away of doing this , and no cant put a pipe to the roof of the bus to see if that would work .
Over to you lot .

It,s available from Bunnings and any plumber. Comes 32mm and 40mm tube with a rubber membrain inside that is flat and opens when you pull the plug.

If the smell is on the inside of the bus I agree with Norman, I have two Hepvos, one for the sink and one for the shower. I have even installed one in the kitchen at home to eliminate the S bend, thereby saving space in the cupboard. Hepvos can be used horizontally as well as vertically.

One 10mm pipe from the top of the grey water tank as a overflow mainly plus to allow the tank to vent .
No both the sink and the shower have S bends George .
I should add the smell is outside the bus not inside , from the over flow pipe .

Not a lot you can do Bernie. The same 'outlet' on the boat has it's top just near the top of my ladder to the top deck & when the breeze is in the wrong direction, & you climb the ladder you cop it square in the face. Could add another 4ft to it but would look a bit ordinary! Maybe just 'strike a light' like they do on those gas bores? (coalseam gas)

Many years ago I found Woolworths had an active enzyme cleaner at a reasonable price <$10 (most similar products were priced nearer $100) It is now available at Bunnings only http://www.bunnings.com.au/drain-clean- ... r_p4460364
However it is not scented, and needs regular dosing and i came across an alternative at Masters in Ballarat last year. This one is scented, works with very small doses, e.g. one capful for a 180 litre tank. No matter what you use there will always be a smell, so introducing a scent is a good idea. You can get similar products for use in swimming pools, but they are not scented. The link shows the spray version, but it is sold in 1 litre container for <$8
