Gas Issue

Post by Kappy »

My new acquisition has a gas hot water system and a 3 burner gas cook top.

Inside the kitchen area is a reset light and switch I believe is for the hot water system.

The other day I observed the light was on indicating the system needed resetting.

Me thinks gas is empty as the gas stove is inoperative as well.

Turn HWS to electric and water heats up so does 4th elec hot plate in cook-top.

On changing over gas bottle discover plenty of gas as bottle is new and nearly full.

So why no working.

On inspecting supply line I see two separate line to HWS and gas stove.

Any Gurus out there experience this at all.

Do regulators fail?

Footnote HWS and stove were working on arrival home???
Cheers

Yes regulators do fail . Two gas lines are also needed and there will be two shut off valves one on each line .
Check you haven't turned them off in you explorations of you new Motor home .

Agree with Bernie. My gas tap for the stove was in the cupboard beside the stove.

Only one gas bottle? Usually two bottles will be secured to the bus.

Thanks

Yes there are 2 gas bottles, both full, one regulator.

There appears to be 2 manual shut off valves, pictured I haven't trned them off or found any others.

The only other switch which I believe is a reset switch is in kitchen area, light goes out when working and was still working on return home.

Scratches head, does one change regulator or is there somewhere else I need to be looking at?

Regulator can 'clog up' & should be higher than the bottles to prevent this.

If all else fails... that might be your problem.

Just sayin...

Correct, been there. Maybe try turning bottles off, operate stove burner selector to allow any pressure to escape then close selector, loosen the outlet connection at the regulator and turn a bottle on to see if gas escapes.

Looks as though will need to dismantle whole tap regulator area.

When bottle selector turned to back bottle no gas comes through, bottle full.

When tap turned to front bottle some gas flows but very little pressure.

Appears some blockage so further investigation required, may borrow regulaor from BBQ as 200 k from nearest Hardware store.

Results posted later.

That 'reset' switch of for turning on/off the gas hot water or resetting it should the flame go out for some reason, or it does not light (like now)
The regulator appears to be the problem. That said, those bras fittings from the regulator forward appear tarnished for some reason.
Anyway, get the approved gasfitter to remove the regulator, clean the filter and return to use.

That appears to be plastic gas hose, that is illegal in a vehicle in Qld, dunno about elsewhere.
You should be doing this as a process of elimination as it is not only the regulator that can be the problem, the flex hoses deteriorate as well.
Me, I would remove the fitting at he bottle, crack the tap, prove it is full (not just cause someone says it is) the put it back, undo the other end of the flex line from the regulator, crack the bottle, etc.
Only then would I worry about testing the regulator.
The clue here for me is that 1 bottle has some pressure the other none, that should tell you summat !
