Lest we forget

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Lest we forget

Post by Jim »

Let's give thanks today for the servicemen and women who gave their lives so that we can enjoy the freedom that we have in this great country of ours.

LEST WE FORGET.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than speak and remove all doubt....

I'm guessing they would be included in the term service men and women, even if they did talk funny. Let us not forget that we became a nation within our selves, both the Aussies and the Kiwis after this point, never again to be used as cannon fodder but lead by our own. Two quotes I remember from a radio interview with a historian regarding this period, both regarded the ANZACs lack of '"respect" for tradition:
But you must salute me, I'm a Colonel
Too right, best job in the army, ya done well mate
And
Salute me, I'm a British officer
Well, when you write home to mum you can tell her you met a real soldier today

I was deeply affected by the information this gentleman was making known, ANZAC's were sent into more than one unwinnable battle and slaughtered for zero gain in the war effort.
