I need a topic
As my ban from the CF has been extended for another mth because of my extreme good looks and the REDMEN there are jealous (only reason I can think of at the moment
)_ I need to bore you to tears or sleep with another electrical rambling thread.... but I need a topic. So, anything members would like discussed, these things are open for everyone's input to keep them balanced and on track, not even Margaret thinks I'm right all the time..... come to think of it I'm not sure I've ever been right according to Margaret.... maybe they have a point over on the other side..... naaaah, what are the chances of them being right and me being wrong
So please give us a starting point so I/we know what sort of things you would like better a better understanding in.... and not what a woman is thinking when she says I'm fine yet has a tear in her eye.... there is a limit to what any male human can know

Re: I need a topic
Maybe something like .... "How can I convert my campervan to be self sufficient"?
Imagine I have something like a converted delivery van and would like a lot of free camping.
Limited area for panels etc etc.
Not everyone has acres of roof space.
Maybe chat about alternators, gennies, portables ............

Ok Terry What do know about LiPo batterys as in rc models. 1-2-3 cell in particular.thats 3.7v 7.4v 11.1v safe charging rates and storage v,s

Re: I need a topic
As far as I know, A123 make LiFeP04 cells in both cylindrical and pouch cells, so they are 3.2v cells not 3.7v cells. To build a battery pack using LiPo cells, the 3.7v type, you need some form of temperature stability and very good cell balancing/charging design.... or you will have a fire before you know it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXHecPqFDB8 is an example of just what can happen even when you think you know what you are doing, not something for the inexperienced to be playing with attempting to make a house battery.norman wrote:Ok Terry What do know about LiPo batterys as in rc models. 1-2-3 cell in particular.thats 3.7v 7.4v 11.1v safe charging rates and storage v,s

Re: I need a topic
no house battery Terry, these are for radio control airplanes. i have 2 x 11.1 batteries according to the balance charger the middle cell in each is below 3v.. I need to recover them. How to do that without a fire is the problem. some say they are no good, I have heard that more voltage ( 15v) may do the trick?????? These are lipo 11.1 and when fully charged are 12.6v

So these are 3 cell batteries, max cell voltage is 4.2v fully discharged is actually 3.2v per cell or 9.6v, 3.7v is their nominal voltage.norman wrote:no house battery Terry, these are for radio control airplanes. i have 2 x 11.1 batteries according to the balance charger the middle cell in each is below 3v.. To rebalance the pack you need a DC charger, preferably around the 4.5v mark and 1 amp to avoid heating the cell rapidly. Charge the battery normally while the second 4v charger is also connected to the low voltage cell if the battery has a balancing module attached. If no balancing module then charge the battery till the high cells reach 4.2v, stop charging and attach the 4v charger to the low cell and charge it to 4.2v. Now discharge the battery and recharge while watching the cell voltages, you may need to repeat the boost charge to the low cell a few times before it comes back into balance with the other 2 cells, but if it doesn't by the 3 rd recharge/discharge cycle, that cell is stuffed and needs to be replaced.
