Murray River cruises

Post by baysidetas »

We are interested in taking a cruise on the Murray and would like to get any recommendations/observations from members who live near the river or people who have done one or more of the commercial cruises.

eg Recommended cruise operators, best type of boat, best time of the year, best section of the river etc.etc.

At the present time because of health reasons my wife has limited capacity to do much walking.

Its a big river tas, do you have anywhere in particular of interest?
Echuca is popular then Mildura then into SA the main places are probably Morgan and Mannum but there are smaller rental places in a great many towns between those mentioned. My bit would be to think of a town first, check the dates for festivals and big weekends THEN start narrowing it down.
For example you wouldn't have a quiet, inexpensive cruise from Echuca on the second weekend of February (Southern 80 Ski race weekend) or pretty much anywhere over the easter break

Google the following ....
Murray Princess
Proud Mary
Probably a good section of the cruise on Murray Princess is from Mannum up to Blanchetown as you go past quite a few big cliffs like Big Bend.
