Wet year?

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Wet year?

Post by BruceS »

Some of you have seen the Mannum Waters Marina and might be interested in how high the water is at the moment.
Due to strong winds from the SW, the water is being held back from flowing out into the lakes and out of the Murray Mouth.
Once the wind dies down or swings around, the level will drop some ...... (I hope!)

Be real interested to see exactly how much water the Eastern states allow over the border.
Once the weather warms up a little bit the water will be poured into the orchards & dairy farms.
Wetlands and flood plains will be getting their fare share too I guess.

The Hume is full and spilling, so a lot should flow
down.

If you really want to know what the forthcoming rainy season is about to bring then go and find where the swans are nesting. My father used to swear by it. If they are nesting up high then wet and floods coming, opposite is obviously inverse. It is only in recent years that I have had the chance to check the swan nests. They usually bear out the theory. They haven't nested on the flat lands yet though. Bloody Plovers are on their second clutch though.

I agree Jon. It probably will flow quite strong but there are still several BIG dams to be topped up long before Mannum.
All the farmers dams, irrigation holding dams etc will all be filled too.
Dartmouth especially.

And Lake Victoria.

Dartmouth is on the Mitta and flows into the Murray. It doesn't draw from the Murray.

One of the nicest caravan parks is at Mitta...

Bruce, you might be able to cruise up into the headwaters if the rain keeps up!

Might have to follow him to make sure he does not get lost.
Can only hope so anyhow.
