Water storage

Post by dapope »

I know many people draw their drinking water from their tanks. Our tanks dont always taste the best, so we have gone the other way, and just buy a 10l water from Coles. Thats our drinking supply, and sometimes cooking too. Takes up sod all room, and means the water quality is consistent. The containers cut in half make great storage containers too

We have also been buying the occasional 10lit for drinking as some of the so called "good water" has been less than good even going through the finest of filters. Thanks for the tip about the cutting them in half.

We are a bit miserable regarding the empty water bottles and refill them where the water taste good, even the little personal size bottles as they go from the fridge or freezer into the cooler bag for drinking water when driving or out looking around and work well for that drink beside the bed when you wake up in the small hrs of the morning.

Supermarket water for sure. Some of the "town" water tastes like it been filtered through a cow paddock. We also have filters and well as rain water collection but the only way to get good clean water is to dump what's in the tanks and go to rain water again if there is enough.

I don't have a lot of bench space in my van, so I use a Brita jug for drinking water. I also have one of those 4 litre Frantelle water bottles, it's not too heavy and I can refill it from the Brita jug. If we're going bush for a while, I'll usually stash a couple of 10 litre casks for an emergency.

When we were at Silverton the taps had "warnings" do not drink or bathe in it so the cp manager said to use the water tank (rainwater) well that water is so hard nothing will lather in it :) not even the Gman :)

Never had any problems with water, use Brita 5lt filter jug and before that it goes through a few filters and if it's really bad water and we need it, it goes through the desalinator which produces excellent water. We also carry S/S water bottles, which have filters in them so we can fill up when not in the bus. You can also buy water filter straws, which will produce pure water from just about anything, we have a box of those on board and bought a bulk supply of brita filters for our jug from the UK at less than 1/5 the price they charge you here. So we have enough filters to last many years.

Never had any problems with water from anywhere that we have been (all states). Last year or two we did use a Brita filter attached to the sink tap. Whether that made a major difference or not, who knows?

We do exactly the same as Dot and T1, if the water is a bit dodgy.
