DoDo stuff...

Post by Chuck »

Early this year our eldest g/son resided in our house whilst we were traveling... & he purchased a DoDo internet gizmo which he left in the house for us, nice bloke.

After the stuff up with our banks & Testra & then transferring our phones to Optus, today we were wandering around Penrith Plaza &, noticing the DoDo popup shop we decided to stop & have chat with the bloke about transferring 'it' into our names - even though I had authority to make decisions on the account.

He asked us who we had our phones with & if they were prepaid or not & how much we were paying.

Optus & yes & $30 ea per month.

He then showed us how we could get the same deal for $16 p/m each... unlimited calls & data!!

Why is there such a difference?

Or is it simply that all the big names are charging more simply because they can?

Anyone doing the DoDo deal with phones & if so how is it & are you happy?

Chuck, dodo don't have the same coverage as the 2 bigger ones. As you are in the mountains, you may find a lot more blackspots with dodo. It might be better to ask the people who live around your area if they are using it and how good it is for your area. Often we use telstra on his phone and optus on mine, so that where ever we are, one of us will have reception. Mostly the issues have been with optus, but not always, and usually one of the phones will have a signal close to most towns. Not so useful in the wide open spaces of the outback. Neither phone worked out of towns and we had silence at Kings Canyon. But that was the only town/recreation area that we had no reception.
Hope that helps mate.

Thanks Deb.

This DoDo bloke says they are Optus/DoDo... forgot to mention that earlier, dunno if that'll make any difference.

Not in a hurry so will hang loose for a few weeks & see.

Have you tried amysim Chuck, (https://www.amaysim.com.au/) they are really cheap, use optus and are very good to work with. Been with them for a number of years and no problems.

We have two mobiles with Southern Phone, who tell you they use the Telstra System.

They dont tell you that they only have a small piece of the Telstra system, as we found out when we went to Birdsville recently. Friends (with full Telstra) had service in many places where we had none.

Worthy of checking how much Telstra/Optus you get with Dodo

DoDo can offer the cheaper prices because the over subscribe their services. The result is very slow interweb and frequent drop outs, frequent drop outs on the phone or simply can not be contacted or dial out. A good friend who always hunts for a bargain but never looks deeper than the $$ part bought the whole bundle.... I didn't think she knew words like the ones she used as adjectives regarding the interweb and phone, even did the ombudsman thing that DoDo then claimed they had expanded the band width or something.... still useless. Eventually the contract ran out and she moved to another provider.

As far as the resellers, bought an Aldi sim to use as a mobile hot-spot in Margaret's phone. poor coverage compared to the Telstra 4G network as they only have access to the 3G network, same deal as far as Optus goes.... and the data is incredibly expensive if you were to continue topping it up for full time use so only suitable for rare access when needed.

My wife has Aldimobile SIM and gets 4G at home and most places. I can only get 3G with Aldimobile at home. Went with OVO and get 4G at home and most places. They are through Optus and the price that I am paying compared to what I paid to Telstra I am happy with them.
