Wikicamps is enough for the free range campers, it tell you all you need to know. And then there's the facebookpage titled Showgrounds Sports and Rec Grounds Camping and if all else fails, there's always Badgers Australian caravan reports and myparklist.com
Why pay for the same information?
and the CMCA wiki thing.
That said, Deb, a monopoly is never a good thing, imagine if wikicamps went down -just turned off for whatever reason- good to have a backup plan.
There are currently about 20 mapping applications for campsites. Wiki Camps is by far the superior contender.
Free Range has been about for a few years and although it has a good funding scheme, is let down by poor server response, and I would rate it at about 10/20 of the twenty apps available, just behind geowiki.
Wikicamps doesn't work on linux, could use it through wine but there are so many ways of finding free camp sites, don't need it. Most of the places we stay, don't appear on any camp site app, which is good because they are always quiet, uncrowded and others using them normally are real travellers.
It's quite amazing the number of very small communities who provide excellent facilities for travellers for free and are extremely welcoming. It's off the beaten track where you get the best experiences, rather than the Congo line touro trails.
This free camping company, is just another attempt to corner a section of the market and yo can bet lots will get sucked in, provide their details and get spammed constantly. They probably won't last long as they have nothing of value to offer the traveller.
