4 Months in Tassie

Post by Swisslulu »

Well it was touch and go for a while whether we would get on the road in time for our night sail on Nov 12 but we were able to leave home on Saturday morning.

Made it to Moonie Crossroads where we spent the night at the roadhouse and enjoyed a celebratory dinner for our first night back on the road. The pork belly was outstanding.

Yesterday the weather was perfect and not much traffic as we travelled down the Newell. Definitely not our favourite road! But we made it to Eumungerie Recreation Grounds, which, at $5 pn unpowered, is highly recommended. Had a visit from one of the local volunteers who thanked us for our stay.

Our plan today was for a short hop to the Forbes free camp on the river but it is blowing a gale at the moment, so we will sit it out for a couple of hours and hope the wind abates.

Oh, you lucky ducks, four months in Tassie. That’s my idea of paradise. Keep us posted with lots of photos please.

What is the concoction in the glass to the right of your dinner plate? Looks like they saved time and brought out your dessert with your main. 😀.

Hi Lesley, I hope you and Erich have a smooth crossing. If you need some directions from the Westgate Freeway to the ferry terminal, there is some maps on my blog page that may help.

I hope we can catch up once you land in Tassie. We are only half an hour from Devonport in Penguin, a patch of grass in the backyard awaits or there is 3 free camps within 5 minutes of home with beach frontage.

Most importantly, don't go under (or not quite under) the low bridges that seem to have been specifically built to cut the top off RV's as unsuspecting interstate visitors make their way to the ferry. Many a holiday in Tassie has been ruined.

It was a little chocolate mousse topped with fresh cream. A little bonus that we didn’t order. Erich said it was very rich and couldn’t eat mine. I don’t have a sweet tooth so it went begging. [emoji17]

Thanks Chris. I have read that on your blog before but will revisit to refresh my memory. Will certainly be in touch once we arrive. Would be great to meet in person.

Thanks Steve. I am aware of the low bridge just need to check the position before we decide on our final route to the terminal.

If you come off the some of the toll roads you do head straight for the Montague St bridge, do not panic, get in the right hand lane and turn right onto Normanby Rd just before the bridge. It is signposted as the route to the ferry. B-doubles also use this way as well so no problems. It is just a little daunting when you see the low bridge sign.

I have updated my blog page map showing where the bridge is
