Geez, talk about complicating a number two. Why would anyone choose a system like this? in other words, what is the advantage of using this toilet over a standard RV toilet?

Re: mick n di's bus build
Because emptying the toilet is always a blue job, better once every few weeks than every second day. Emptying is a simple hose attachment and turn on the pump, then pump the grey water through the black tank for a flush. No splash back, no messing around with a hose trying to clean the last bits out of a cassette, no vacuum leaks, no needing to replace "O" rings and seals because bits don't work any more ...... do you need me to keep goingCraig wrote:Geez, talk about complicating a number two. Re: mick n di's bus build
Yes Terry, as I have a black tank with the toilet directly above, no need for vacuum, no need to macerate, no need to pump out as gravity works just fine and the grey tank uses the same dump manifold so it flushes all out after the black is done. I did however change out the seals for the slide valve last year. Not bad they were only 11 years old
. Although we have found a couple of dump points that have been hard to access but the solution I have is to use a tote tank. It has a flushing fitting and is a lot simpler and easier to clean when all done. Having worked with a lot a treatment systems on ships I strongly believe in keeping it simple. I do however agree with your comments when referring to a cassette toilet.

Re: mick n di's bus build
I did think seriously about the straight drop black tank but the position of the tank didn't suit as I want the area for lockers. If the macerator toilet doeesn't work out it is still an option.

Re: mick n di's bus build
The other point I should make is the size of the black tank. Ours is 65ltrs. It will keep us right for up to 14 days. We initially thought the tank was a 40 ltr tank (as stated in the owners hand book) so I bought the 45 ltr Tote tank. Thinking it would be impossible to accidently overflow it. Well we found out the hard way that the owners hand book is incorrect. We empty whenever we can. We don't need a larger tank as I don't see any point in carrying hundreds of kg's of crap around

Re: mick n di's bus build
Now this raises an interesting point, what does crap weigh? The fluid part would be 1kg per ltr, but what about the solids? What would be the ratio of floaters to sinkers? We don't need a larger tank as I don't see any point in carrying hundreds of kg's of crap around
This all belongs on the Banal thread and we should give Mick his bus project thread back, we are naughty people
OK, I've moved it over here, hopefully I haven't trodden on too many toes.
So how would you go about calculating the weight of the black tank? Treat each ltr capacity as a kg like water or would it be heavier?
