Nomadding Greynomad (& SWMBO)

Post by Greynomad »

Currently unlaxing in Thargominda, second day here.
Unbelievable amount of money spent here!
One kilometre walking track to Pelican Spring & up to the end of town. Nothing notable so far... until I tell you the whole track is concrete path 1.8m wide, with solar bollard lights & in some places solar street lights all the way!
CP was built in 2002 by local council with resident manager.
Serviced and self-catering cabins (12), 26 drive through van sites and an area for unpowered vans & tents.
Town has spiffy looking median strip gardens and half a dozen shaded picnic tables and chairs scattered about.
Local council (Bulloo Shire) gets lots of $$$ from royalties on local gas & oil drillers. It shows.
From here we head for Toompine, Quilpie, Charleville then maybe we’ll wend our weary way home.
En route north we discovered a beaut bush camp spot at Bourke: May’s Bend. Ten km north, turn right. Three km east is acre of space to set up.
DEFINITELY staying there again heading south!!
😁
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Three km east is acre of space to set up.
What I meant to say was ACRES (multiple!)
The tracks meander off into the bush for miles, over hill & dale, crossing (dry) watercourses...

So much fun... wish the Late Lamented Jim the Junior Jeep was still functional. :(
Next time... :D

Incommunicado for a week.
Now in Charleville Bush Camp, 2km N of town. It's in CAW... great place... now has a Camp Host for winter.
Planned to travel Thargomindah maybe to Noccundra, then up to Quilpie.
Instead, found a flyer for Alroy Station-Stay camping area, about 60km NW of Eulo, so (rather than double-back) we drove the Thargo-Quilpie road to the turnoff (about 100km) and another 57km to Alroy.
Planned to stay overnight. It was MAGIC! So peaceful & great we stayed three! Grazing kangas, lots of unafraid birdlife... and NO light pollution to dim the stars!
However, hosts Mac & Mary are doing it tough (like most farmers in the outback)... 60 THOUSAND acres, and they're running 200 head of Brangus cattle & 2000 sheep. :o ... And every couple of days Mac takes the 'dozer out and pushes over a few Mulga trees so the cattle have something to keep them alive.
They opened the campground 2 years ago to try a second income stream. Doesn't pay well, but it's something...
If you're ever in the Eulo are -- or near another station-stay -- go in and pay for a couple of days to lend a hand.
And if you come across any raffles, cake stalls or whatever trying to raise funds for drought relief, PLEASE buy a ticket or whatever they're selling.
From Charleville we're heading in a generally southerly direction. Wending our weary way home. Should be there by the end of the month. :P
