LPG $$ Warning

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

LPG $$ Warning

Post by Greynomad »

People,
Whatever you do, try NOT to run low on LPG in Cunnamulla!!
There is but ONE place in town that does refills, the hardware store, and Toreador's bulls (thats with a U :P ) have nothing on this bloke's charges!
9kg refill earlier this month cost us $45.95!!! :o

Exmouth, Karratha generally any where in the outback refills are in the $50 range
When we were camp hosts at Yardi Creek @ Cape Range a few years ago we were paying $45 with a park discount at the local petrol station, was $55 @ the hardware store, nothing new and they make it at Karratha
Biggest thing was the fridge using a bottle every 10-14 days in 45d heat and we were there for 2 months
I always look at it like a local everything is PLUS Fright just one of those things they are not ripping you off, same charge if you live there full time, take the price of beer or soft drinks no $10 slabs like in the city
But if a million people lived there it would be $20, but then one wouldn't go there, would they

Welcome to the forum James & Maureen good to get that first post out of the way isn't 8-) The price of LPG by the bottle or from the bowser in some of these out of the way places is getting to be a real strain on the finances for quite a few travellers, just finding the stuff can be quite a job sometimes. We have fitted a few household inverter fridges along with the lithium battery upgrade because of the gas price issue and the fact the 3 way fridge really struggles in the hot weather. $45 every 10 to 14 days works out to around $1400 just for the gas each yr, under $1,000 for a 250ltr inverter fridge and separate inverter to power it from the house battery. The other $400 would buy enough solar panels to run the fridge, makes you take a second look eh

Yes. The 240v fridge running off of the batteries really worked a treat for us. Could even keep icecream. Also installed a diesel hot water system that worked well although it is a bit noisy starting up. We only carry a small bottle of gas for the cooktop if we need it in emergency but mainly use the microwave and electric BBQ plate.

Well, prior to Cunnamulla, the most I have paid for LPG was $42... and I thought THAT was Highway Robbery!
I agree that where you have lots of customers as well as LPG outlets, competition will ensure lower prices.
I can buy a refill at home for $19.
But MORE THAN DOUBLE that?
