BREAKING NEWS: To protect the Riverland from fruit fly, this Government is taking a zero tolerance approach at random roadblocks and at the permanent quarantine station at Yamba. From January 4, 2019, fines will apply to all drivers arriving from Mildura into Yamba illegally carrying fresh produce. I've been assisting with removal of signs leading into the Riverland quarantine zone as it is no longer acceptable to avoid penalty by surrendering fruit at the Yamba Quarantine Station.

*UPDATE* Thank you for the feedback on this post.
In response to those who have commented on removal of signage, we are removing a small number of signs which no longer comply with quarantine regulations into Yamba. We will be providing replacement signage between the SA/Vic border and the Yamba quarantine station. While there are already ample warnings not to bring fruit into the Riverland through roadside signage, we are increasing our efforts in this area.
We will have additional disposal bin sites leading to our fixed quarantine stations.
A large volume of South Australia’s fresh produce is grown in the Riverland. It only takes one piece of fruit infested with larvae to cause destruction of not only our horticultural industries but communities. It's clear the message hasn’t cut through. This zero tolerance measure is designed to ensure our strict quarantine measures are adhered to and we can keep our fruit fly free status which provides major market advantages for Riverland growers.
The message is simple: if you are travelling into the SA or the Riverland, don’t bring in fruit and vegetables that could put our fruit fly free status at risk. It’s not worth it
