Best way to re-polish bullbar

Post by supersparky »

We have an aluminium bullbar on our Winny Alpine. Looks the same as all the other Alpine and Longreach models.
It is starting to look a bit shabby, and I have spent a bit of time using metal polish and plain old elbow grease to make it a bit better.
It there a better or simpler method of doing this? I have a low speed buff around 200mm but I didn't think it would be much chop on the round bits. Any ideas?
Cheers

David I can't remember it's name but quite a few of the pro cray fishing boats are now aluminium and there is a product that they spray on, leave for a few hours & then high pressure remove to bring back to 'bright' condition.
Our neighbor used it on his alum tray on his landcruiser & I thought he had a new tray fitted.
Bernie might know? He's an ex-truckie!!! Ask at a truckstop when you see one with shiny fuel tanks?

Try this on a small section?
How to Polish Brushed Aluminum

Wipe down the brushed aluminum using a lint-free soft cloth. ...
Pour 1/2 cup of vinegar into a large bucket. ...
Dip a clean cloth into the bucket and wipe down the brushed aluminum.
Squeeze 1/2 cup of lemon juice into a small bowl. ...
Wet a wash cloth to wipe the paste off of the brushed aluminum.

Thanks Bruce, I think that might have worked on the Coaster but this is polished just like some of those big 4 tankers that you can see yourself in. I will ask some of the truckies when we are next at a big truckstop.
Cheers

Take it to a metal polisher and get them to do it. The result will be to your satisfaction or you won't pay them and how much easier could it get? ;)

I was trying to get out of 'expending energy' but I reckon I would be exhausted by the time I got it off, if I did that.
Looks like I will have to just keep polishing by hand, until I bump into a truckie with shiny fuel tanks. :D

Drive the vehicle to the metal polisher, let him decide if he needs to take the thing off or not :D Think of all the practice cooking and drinking you could do in preparation for Taggerty rather than spending all that time and energy you pass off to someone else. At least you will get a price to do the job and decide if the time spent polishing was worth it ;)

I have enough practice drinking, apparently! And my cooking skills will always need refinement.
Now to find a metal polisher that might be interested!!!
Did I tell you that this year I am finally going to win the cooking contest. Cuppa won't be there so I must be a shoe in, don't you think?
Who will be the unlucky bugger to nuke something this year?? Jd and myself probably don't need that accolade again.
