Has the question of Commercial verses Home Mix ever been resolved?
If Commercial - What brand?
If home mix - What formula?

Re: Toilet Additive
We have a cassette toilet & put a little jasol in the top water tank as we refill it & throw a a bit of napisan down the 'hatch'. About an eggcup full at the most.

Re: Toilet Additive
We have a SOG ventilation system installed so no chemicals are required. The site explains it http://www.aussietraveller.com.au/pages ... entilation.
Ours was already installed when we bought the van second hand, so I have no recommendation for supplier. May be cheaper if sourced abroad.
We love it and would certainly not have a van without one.

Re: Toilet Additive
We used the home brand Nappy soaker for years and found it wasn't any cheaper or any better than Bio Magic. If used IAW the instructions you will get good results. We have now been using the Bio Magic product for the last 2 years and I will not go back to Nappy soaker.

Re: Toilet Additive
Dot, SOG is a German company that manufactures this loo ventilation system which eliminates the need for chemicals. If you click on the link in my previous post, all will be revealed. Here is a link to a UK website selling the kit for £106 http://www.campervanstuff.com/shop_stuf ... d_prd=1048 which would probably be much cheaper even including freight than the $300 or so that they cost here.

Re: Toilet Additive
I have fitted SOG systems to our countries patrol boats and they work by pumping air through the waste. This promotes an Aerobic treatment of the waste. I do find it strange that the RV system simply draws fresh air into the tank and doesn't draw it through the waste or am I not reading it correctly?. The nappy san and the bio magic also promote an Aerobic treatment. They make claims of no smell but they are not referring to the system magically stopping smells being produced if their system is used, they are referring to drawing the smells out of the breather and not entering the RV. Do these cassette toilets have a problem with allowing smells into the RV? (I have a black tank).

Re: Toilet Additive
It's all in the timing Craig!! I leave the trapdoor closed until aticipated 'touchdown' & quickly open it & close it. Once closed it is a very good seal & little smell results. When leaving I often lay a small amount of clean water on top of the trapdoor.
One benefit of cassettes is you can often get by with a half a cupful of water... sometimes less.
