1st World problem

Post by Kappy »

Not sure if this belongs here, but here goes.

Today I manged to be extricated from my stuck position here in Bringelly NSW and moved to a higher , dryer spot..

Be it not quite even

Have managed to level with timbers under the rear by backing up, however only under the outside of the rear duels.

Hopefully with a yes/No answer, as I haven't done this long term should I put timber under all 4 wheels/ tyres, just looks odd with the inner hanging space.

I know I am just female so for what it's worth I would put wood under all of the wheels with no over hanging

So, did you tow the bus out with the Indian.?.
It's good that you are high and dry and ready to go again mate.

Kappy,
The wood under the inner tyres depends on how long you will be stationary.
It could be MONTHS depending on the travel restrictions and border closure due to the bloody virus.
It won't cost you anything to play safe and put blocks under both inner tyres as well as the outer tyres.
What else have you got to do to pass the time. You could polish the Indian.
Keith.

Timber under all the wheels, longer than the tread area and wider. This will share the weight over a bigger area and avoid sinking again and the load evenly across the rear wheels will reduce stress on the outer tyres, wheel bearings and axle housing. I''d put timber under the trailer tyres as well if you can, or even better, jack it up a bit to take the load off the tyres to avoid flats spots and damage to the tyre walls/tread area case from prolonged distortion from the normal running shape. Many reports of vehicles being parked up for long periods, like 12 mths, then taken on the road and multiple tyre failures until all the tyres had been replaced. Some put it down to aged tyre casings but the case damage as a possible case can't be ruled out.

Now that I'm on dry solid ground and likely to be here for several months, I'll play with some timber blocks and jack up under the rear axle taking all the load of the tyres ,If I can get enough timber I could support at the chassis taking the load of the springs as well.
Youtube of extraction coming.
The bus sat a home in the same spot for at least 18 months prior to me getting mobile, no tyre issue over the last 4000 km.
Cheers

Here is a little clip of the extraction.

Now deciding whether to jack up @ the axle or to support all wheels.
