new thermostat?

Post by BruceS »

Recently I've been involved in a couple of discussions revolving around fridge & freezer temperatures.
It seems there's a problem maintaining a set temperature when the temperature outside the unit varies a lot.
Surely you would think if it is a TRUE thermostat set at a certain temperature that it would simply compensate for any /all ups & downs??
It seems not!!
I came across this thread & after reading it & seeing the price & free postage I'm thinking I don't have a lot to lose in trying it out?

BUT....... there's always a but isn't there?
The question arises as to where I should place the sender unit? I presume in the freezer section?
I thought maybe 2 of them....... one in each section over riding the other if that particular section gets too warm?
I guess trial & error? Maybe get 2 of them for testing? (or a dozen?lol)
Any comments?

I agre with the guy on the other forum, use the unit to drive an automotive or solid state relay, the internal relay switches 5amps @240vac, 12vdc would arc the contacts very quickly making the unit useless. Stick it in a hobby box, put the probe near the top of the exaporator plate and tune it from there, get the power from the fridge light circuit. Alternatively, if there is a drain hose, feed the probe up through there and mount the unit outside the fridge. the top of the fridge section is the hottest part, the freezer temp is a by product of how often the fridge temp needs to be pulled down, possible two units over riding each other but the freezer temp would need to be set to around -8 deg or so, otherwise it may keep bringing the compressor on line and freezing everything in the fridge. For reason frozen lettuce doesn't go down too well with the boss  suggesting she find somewhere else to store it because that's the best temp for the beer is not a clever move I've discovered
