This is one of the most complex engines I seen for a while, and it's only got 3 cyls, Hope you enjoy watching it get pulled apart to what went wrong

Re: For those into mechanical things
This one talks about Top Fuel Dragsters and why the engine doesn't last long ....... I've seen them talk about lasting 950RPM under full power .... but the power is a guestimate anyway, they couple up after mid track (680mtrs on a 1,000 mtr pass) the horsepower required just to drive the blower is mind boggling ...... can you imagine how quick they would be turbo charged? But would the lost down force on the launch reduce the actual run time, just up the speed, something they are already working at reducing ....... the change in the percentage Nitro Methane has changed the flame colour and it actually spits fuel out now because all that goes in can't be burnt in the time the piston in on the fire stroke ..... I'm guessing it's methanol that gets spat out because all the oxygen created by the nitro methane has been consumed .....

Is there a link to that somewhere?

Re: For those into mechanical things
I have a mechanical question.
My little Ford ute,,,wont start sometimes, nothing when you turn the key, but if you move the steering left and right it starts
...but I found out yesterday while fiddling if I keep the key turned and leave it there it will start after maybe 4 or 5 seconds...would that be a relay playing up ???
If so where would one look for such a beast
Bernie.

Re: For those into mechanical things
Bernie, I reckon it will be the ignition switch playing up.
Cheers

Re: For those into mechanical things
The Commodores had an oil pressure switch that turned on the fuel pump as well as the normal ignition pulse or rpm counting relay that stayed on for 5 secs after the engine stopped turning. If that RPM controlled relay failed, the oil pressure switch relay would kick in once the oil pressure was high enough. If there was a problem with the RPM sensing relay, the engine would need to be cranked until the oil pressure activated the second relay, then there was enough fuel pressure to feed the injectors and the engine would fire up. Only noticeable if the engine sat for long enough for the fuel pressure to drop, sometimes a stumbling start would be an indicator that there wasn't quite enough fuel pressure for a clean smooth start .....BernieQ2 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 7:03 am I have a mechanical question.

Something to test and see if those symptoms are common with your starting problem.

I like this You Tube channel, he gets to tear down engines most of us would never see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXanLM7_zZ0 This one is a Maserati.

No fancy stuff on this old engine Terry. The only electric are for the fuel pump is to turn it on or off.
Doesn't even have airbags.
And would you believe it hasn't done it once this morning
Bernie.
