Well this is going to be different, we are going to take our little dog Charlie with us on our next trip it will be a first for both of us... Charlie has a second home where he usually goes when we travel, but as he is getting a little old, 15 years, and is now starting to go deaf, and is starting to suffer from dementia and has now been told he has a heart murmur, and our friends will be having him in July to Nov. we decided we would take him for this first trip, we will be away for 3 months , he is a little bit of a wanderer so we have set up a nice big long lead, and a friend has a portable dog inclosure that folds flat that we will take with us, and we are also going to have a couple of nights sleep over in the van before we leave.. He is quite happy to be with us and usually just sleeps in his bed, so fingers crossed it will all work out well. Charlie is used to the car so that is not a problem..
Cheers Ros.

Ros you will all have a great time, keep the little fella close with all his normal things like bed, toys etc Heart murmur = 0 to worry about just watch that he doesn't pick up rubbish like bones that the human wombles have left around. examine him all over every day for ticks, make sure his jabs are all done and just love the little fella to bits while you can and never leave him off the lead..P.S Always have good water for him as well...

Hi Lesley... Charlie is a Long Haired Chihuahua/ Pom Cross.. Thanks for asking we realized that we did not have an update photo of Charlie so we have now taken one just a couple of minutes ago...not easy with his dementia harder than trying to take a photo of the kids

Dot he already has a bed in the van when we are in there doing things he comes in and sits in it , he has 5 beds around the house and just moves from bed to bed where we are, had all his shots last week and his senior check up.. Tick could be a problem as we are going into a well know tick area, but our vet has told us to ask the vet where we are going for the best advice of what to do.. He really is attacted to Ivan never has him out of his site..

If That cute little charlie can take the tick spot on stuff you still have to check him daily, keep him out of longish grass for a start .. He really must have dementia being attracted to Ivan the terrible Oh but then again so are you but you have another funny attraction IRONING but I like yu's all

Re: First Trip with our little old dog...
Ticks are a real problem especially the scaley backs up here on the north coast. These bloody ticks can get into the most unlikely places, bother internally and externally so go over them stem to stern, literally. Had one of our previous little mates struck down twice despite having the tick preventative treatments. They do lessen the effects and do give you time to seek vet attention but its not that long before the damage is done, usually in hours. Several days at a time in vet hospital cost a bundle but we didn't and wouldn't ever consider not doing it even to the end but to see the little fellas staggering around and falling over is really disturbing and very distressing. If he happens to get one don't waste time getting to the vet. Faster the better and the more chance he has of pulling through it and making a full recovery. Can't say the same for the wallet though....Lol. But they are worth every dollar we spend on them, they are one of the kids to us and I would go without rather than see them go short.
