Forget about Elon's big talking, the is what JPL has actually done

Built on the cheap (well, cheap for space missions) using a lot of everyday parts from mobile phones and cordless tool battery parts ..... well worth watching ....

A really interesting video. 7 'GPS' satellites circling Mars already. mind boggling.
