Things we saw today.

Post by supersparky »

Just after lunchtime today, Terrie and I were walking out on the track towards Kyffens Reserve. When all of a sudden, we encountered our first eastern brown of the upcoming snake season. It was barely 1.5 metres in front of us when it/we reacted, possibly quite badly. It assumed the typical brown snake strike response and we assumed the ' let's walk backwards really fast' response. After a few defensive lunges and a bit of 'nothing happening here' type stuff, we all went on our respective ways.
It was a beautiful sunny afternoon, and coming across a brown snake was the last thing on my radar today.
We all lived to tell the tale.
Most snakes I see around here are red belly blacks.
The moral of the story is ' we all live in their backyard'. And some of them live in ours.
Cheers
David

A few years ago, I was packing up at Taggerty.

A monster brown came out from under the house and across the 'porch' and down the drain where the porch light is. Still makes me nervous today.
