Ya got me, how do Foxes pose a bigger risk for EV owners having their brakes fail that those with ICE powered vehicle?supersparky wrote: ↑Tue Nov 25, 2025 10:52 pm Foxes blamed after more than 40 electric cars have brakes damaged in night-time attacks | The Independent https://share.google/ytibmfQioWk37u4s7

So do EV's have electric brakes, seems like a hoax to me, or the IRA pissed off with EV's taking over.

I can't work that one out either Terry. That article didn't explain much. I couldn't work out how the foxes etc knew which vehicles were electric. Maybe the petrol companies paid for the article, just to scare monger.T1 Terry wrote: ↑Tue Nov 25, 2025 11:46 pmYa got me, how do Foxes pose a bigger risk for EV owners having their brakes fail that those with ICE powered vehicle?supersparky wrote: ↑Tue Nov 25, 2025 10:52 pm Foxes blamed after more than 40 electric cars have brakes damaged in night-time attacks | The Independent https://share.google/ytibmfQioWk37u4s7

Re: More FAKE electric vehicle news!
Here's some more fake news. Someone must be paying these journos to write rubbish articles.
https://www.news.com.au/technology/moto ... pC8zFwujtg
We saw quite a few different EV's to the usual brands that we have here, on our recent trip through Italy. Even saw a couple of 400kw charging stations, but most were 200kw.
There is a lot more variety of all types of vehicles in Europe, way more than what we see here. Strangely enough only saw a solitary Ford Ranger while travelling around, not like here.
Bruce, is it possible to change the name of this thread to More EV fake news?

Re: More FAKE electric vehicle news!
That one was the bit that interested me, they are very much brake by wire these days, you apply the brake pedal and it determines the pressure applied and then determines if regen braking alone will be sufficient or if some hydraulic pad to disc friction will be required, then determines the brake bias from to rear and wheel to wheel.native pepper wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 5:29 am So do EV's have electric brakes, seems like a hoax to me, or the IRA pissed off with EV's taking over.
The MG has an additional feature, a calliper that locks onto the rear discs as the park brake, electrically operated but I believe uses the pressure from the electric pump used by the braking system and ABS, but it also has a hydraulic lock that hold the calliper on until electrically released, this is in addition to the park pawl in the electric motor ....

Have you all missed the point that it is damage to the wiring by animals which is causing the problems?

These AI generated news articles are going to result in the end of the interweb as an information highway, many of the You Tube videos need to be watched with scepticism as the primary filter, anything offering itself as a news article needs to be viewed as a story with scraps of truth weaved through it to make it look possibly plausible .....

Re: More FAKE electric vehicle news!
Maybe they could chew through the wheel speed sensor wiring, cause havoc with lights and cameras, but the rest of the wiring on an EV has so much protection around it, there isn't much hope of anything getting to that wiring.Newcastle George wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 11:05 am Have you all missed the point that it is damage to the wiring by animals which is causing the problems?

ICE powered vehicles don't have near that level of wiring protection, the laws don't mandate it as a safety concern, so there are prone to vermin attack, but that was the case back in the '70 when I started in the trade and it has remained about the same percentage of vehicle failures over the yrs since. Getting a rodent inside the EV is an issue, much like any late model car, they rely on touch screens and sensors, but in the case of an EV, it gets bricked, it simply won't turn anything on because the myriad of computers haven't all given the thumbs up to close the link to the high voltage battery .... so it remains a 12v battery powered problem ....
