I've just seen some more video of the flooding through the camp grounds at Wye River and the Cumberland River down on the Great Ocean Road. It's tragic that everything you own could be swept away and smashed to bits on the rocks as it floats down the river. Apparently the river came up so quickly that people didn't have time to get out.
And of course there are the bushfires around Vic and the rain and floods up in Qld.

Re: Crazy weather lately
Certainly is crazy weather, after an overcast warm day 27c, it’s thunder, lightning & raining tonight, more rain is predicted for tomorrow.

Re: Crazy weather lately
It's called climate change and it hasn't really started yet, just warming up. Wait until the effects of our never ending environmental destruction, air pollution and Antarctic glacier collapse really kicks in, then we will need to worry.
These violent storms are just the beginning, read an article a while ago where scientists are saying we are feeling the effects of what we did decades ago and what we are doing now will hit us over the next decade or so as the effects accumulate. It's noticeable down here that high pressure systems are moving south and the last couple of years we haven't had the big northerly winds summer used to bring us, now we are seeing more easterly winds and calm days throughout summer. Whilst Aus is beginning to experience the effects of tropical rainy seasons with the associated violent instant storms, with little warning and devastating consequences.
Haven't had a surf this summer, no waves in places I surf, but good bike riding days and not a lot of rain this month, which seems to be a pattern over the last few years for January.

Re: Crazy weather lately
Agree re the northerly winds, we were only discussing the lack of them this summer, we’ve been living here on Lake Macquarie for 30 years & around 10am each day we would get the northerly blowing across the lake always kept our house cool.
Our younger son who is a keen kite surfer & wing foiler was complaining to us re lack of northerly winds locally, he’s also into cycling.
One of our older neighbours has a foil board with an electric motor on it, wow he appears to speed across the lake on same.

Re: Crazy weather lately
I've noticed the effects of the cyclone have wandered South?
Sorry Dave but I thought you should have some as well!!
Even your old stamping ground is/was in for some too Terry.
We have that much moisture laying around up here that the evap is creating the 'usual' afternoon build up & storm.
I know all this has to be blamed on someone or something but records show that it's mostly a revolving event.
I'm not so sure God has an ending in site just yet.

Re: Crazy weather lately
Really strange day here, hot inside the Winnie, reasonably pleasant in the wind under the awning, burn your skin off on the other side of the Winne and virtually no wind.
The direction of the wind was at 45* to the left side, that funnelled the wind in and under the awning, but the Winnie blocked the wind from cooling it up the right hand side, so just too hot to do anything that wasn't under the shade of the awning and in the wind.
It is dry as bark hut around here at the moment, the out of control hedge must have a good root system, it's still green and bits of where the fire killed it are starting to show a few green bits here and there.
The only other green growing thing is that mongrel tree thing that seem to be impossible to kill ..... started with one, now there are 5 of them, every one has been ripped out, big root strings ripping out of the ground, drenched in round up .... even the weeds are dying from the heat, yet these things spring up again, bright green and fast growing with small yellow trumpet flowers ...... Found it https://weeds.org.au/profiles/yellow-trumpet-bush/#
They claim glyphosate kills it, so I googled that and found that Round up may no longer contain glyphosate .... so, a bottle reading trip to the hammer shop will be on the list of things to do .... but not tomorrow, needles in the eyes tomorrow ..... I can hardly control my excitement

Terry, if you can find a bottle of tree and blackberry killer, you should have better success. Lop off a branch and saturate the raw stem. Do it as you remove the branches and you will see a difference quite quickly.

Re: Crazy weather lately
Terry, while you are at the green shed, wander up to the garden tools section and buy a mattock. Then, every time one of those suckers pops up, then grub it out. It takes a while, but eventually you might be lucky enough to kill them off. Or not.
We have them here too, and I just keep grubbing them whenever they get big enough to see.
I don't think Bunnings sell any glysophate based product anymore, as it has been proven to be the main reason that bees are on the decline.
