Color blind husband

Post by Macca »

We had bought 5mt of 90% green shadecloth for me to make the awning for the offside of the van. It was only 1.8 wide as I already had 1.8 & was going to join to make wide enough to cover car. Anyway the lighter green, old stuff that I had looked crappy against the new so off to Masters went Bb this afternoon to get 5mt 1.8 90% green cloth.
He came home with BLACK & on inspection could see that it was not 90%. he said the thought it was the 90%n but admitted that he did not read the sign at the end of the reel. Ah well, $50 down the drain or a 2 tone awning.
I decided to ring Masters, asked for boss person. The Floor Manager came to phone . I esplained fristly about it not being 90% but we were charged the 90% price but then also admitted that husband had bought the incorrect color. Not a problem he says- bring back & they will cut another piece.
On Wed when we bought the first piece the woman asked if we were sure of the lenght that we wanted because once cut cannot get another piece.
Waiting for him to come home- hopefully not with a pink piece

But who would Kay blame then if it was the wrong colour?

While your making a cover that will fit over the car a good modification I made some time ago was to sew 4 pockets into the whole width of the shade cloth, sew a decent hem along the bottom with leather ( from an old bag ) fitted in at either end of the pockets, small slit at the bottom to allow support rods to be inserted.

I got some ( 16 ) 3/8 fibre glass bendy rods from Rays Camping and made a curly type of fitting from wire ( similar to a tent type ) that fitted up into the rod and also could be tied down to the ground.
Carefully fitted a cord elastic up thru 4 of the rods, same as in a tent arrangement and tied off the ends.

The 4 joined rods went up into the pockets and then were bent down to the ground and pulled in closer to the van and pegged down thru the curly bit of wire, making an igloo type of awning that I could drive the ute under as well as protect the van from heat/ weather.

The rods , like a tent, were easier to put away than the poles I originally had for the extra awning and I could either pull the shade straight down to the ground or "igloo" it.

I must be honest here as I didn't sew the thing myself but had a friend , motor / boat trimmer do it for me.
All I did was fit the extra sail track to the other side of the pop top and get the rods to fit my funny shaped wire ends :P

I don't have any pictures as it was sold with the van.

All changed & correct. There was also a stuffup as far as Masters is concerned. Positions of 90% & 70% cloths were altered but the stickers had not been altered. Floor manager who served B in the first place charged him for 90% but it was only 70% & Bruce selected the incorrect color  All sorted now & waiting for me to get the sewing machine.
It was suggested to me this morning that I should sew by hand (from a certain Swisslulu's husband) & use fishing line (from Bruce) in the sewing machine!!!!!!

Aldi have 2m wide caravan patio units they fit a 2.4m high caravan/motorhome. So I bought 2, tomorrow will see how easy they are to put up, or maybe leave out the fiberglass rods and make them easier. Will work it out tomorrow. At $70 each, maybe they will work off the shelf or maybe I will modify.
