Right on the money.
The WW1 static plane display is awesome, and well worth the visit, even if you are not a plane buff.

Oooops! I read "South" & didn't keep reading the South Auckland bit!!
A bit too flash for WW1 planes? WW2 I think.
Lovely seeing some of the old war birds kept in pristine condition though.

The WW1 planes are on display. The 2 WW2 ones are outside the hangar. The WW2 display is coming...
Sir peter Jackson apparently owns about half the displayed WW1 planes, and is a big sponsor. The charter flights in the replica biplane were off the day we were there unfortunately. When I get round to it, I will pt a couple of piccys up. One plane on display is in absolutely original condition. It was hidden for over 70 years to keep the Germans from getting it, and then it was simply left where it was hidden. Was a wonderful couple of hours wandering around

For anyone interested in such history, a great read is "Stuka Pilot - Hans Ulrich Rudell" The man was amazingly capable, brave and lucky. Barracked for the wrong side, of course, and his political leanings were National Socialist. He was not, however, guilty of any war crimes. All of his combat was on the eastern front so it is not so difficult to read if patriotism makes it difficult to read books from the other side.

A clue for this one that might make it easier - there are only 6,000 shipwrecks around the Australian coastline!
