Q/ Why do helicopters do a round about approach to landing when they are able to go in a straight line? We watch the westpack copter when it comes in to pick up people being transferred to Adelaide (emergencies) ??

All aircraft have to do a normal approach to land .

But why can't a chopper fly to just above the X then ooze down?, no runways to line up.

Our resident helicopter & his friends that land always take off & land coming & going over the lake since I think closer residents to him complained about the noise overhead, they live on a small waterfront acreage.
