Well maybe not just today, more like over the last week or more. Replaced the temporary repair oil lines, aligned the alternator better and welded up the flogged out mounting holes, new fan belt, oil change and oil filters, tracked down and fixed the diesel leak/air leak problem and replaced the "O" rings in the injector pump plunger tubes, replaced the indicator can so the flashers work when I want them to rather than when they feel like it, fixed the broken wire to the inside lights and fitted a Merritt plug for Margaret's CPAP machine.
Cosmetically..... well nothing actually, ran out of time, still need to get the spare tyre fixed that got a puncture last trip but a tad expensive here in Mannum so that will be an on the way job.

A person may fail many times, they only become a failure when they blame someone else John Burrows

Ran a new wire for the fuel gauge.
Gauge itself was bung, replaced -then found
sender was bung, replaced -then found
wire was bung too. Now have gauge working.
Next comes the tacho, turbo boost and oil pressure........................

More bungs than typically required
Does anyone know of the tacho wiring system?
There are only 3 pins on the gauge itself, "+" "-" and "w", 1987 vintage VDO
The pulse is generated by a magnetic style switch reading teeth on an engine gear.
It worked OK before my wiring "modifications" but shows nothing at present with the "w" connected directly to one of the switch terminals like it would be earthing any signal sent FROM the gauge
Does the tacho need a 24v pulse feedback from this switch or does it earth through the switch (sender) like a normal level / temperature gauge?
Cheers for any help

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Except it didn't work
SIgnificantly the negative pin is connected to a number of other things in the cluster and they need a direct ground.
So the neg pin must be connected to ground (24v neg),
So I have a "pos", a "neg" and a "W" on the gauge and a pickup with 2 wire terminals.
Hmmmmmmm.
