Helen, we are back home now. It was only a one day fair, but a good one all the same. I can almost afford Christmas now.

Today I spent a lot of time in my shed. I had a Christmas tree that came off it's base in the travelling. Luckily, the glass stayed in perfect condition. So I built the base up with many layers of glue and beads for stability. By the time the glue is set, that tree will be going only where I want it to go. I am sure that the grandkids will love them.

I finally got around to writing the family Christmas card today. I do wonder why I get conned into doing these jobs. Anyway, the grandkids all get their pictures in the card and they will get posted as soon as the envelopes are addressed. I spent the afternoon in therapy and cut out a couple more glass Christmas trees, ready for firing in the morning. So all up, it has been a day of getting things dealt with. I will certainly sleep better now that the blasted card has been printed off.

Today we had the most amazing storm. It was very loud and windy with a lot of really thick, heavy rain. Luckily we missed the hail that Shirley had. I had organised the annual neighborhood Christmas party for today. I was all ready to go, dressed up and with platter of party food, when his nibs suggested I look out the front door. The sky was the blackest that I have ever seen. As soon as I opened up the door, the clouds let all hell fly. So the party was a non event. Another quiet afternoon in the lair, except that we spent it watching the storm as it passed around the lake.

Had a busy day taking the prado back to bridgestone for it's 6 month tyre checkup (worse than bloody dentists) and while we waited, managed to get in some Christmas shopping. Now all I have left to buy for is HMV. That is proving to be very difficult, soon he will be getting nothing more than a kiss on the cheek for Christmas.....minds above the belt thanks

Have you tried doing slumped glass?
We've seen the results of the furnace trick where you stick a whole bottle in and wait for it to melt into an ashtray/serving dish/bikkie tray sort of thing. Also see some rather spiffy-looking platters with slumped centres, glass shapes melted onto the rims, etc.
Just wondering how difficult it is to time the furnace to hold the outline while the bottle or platter centre collapses.
I imagine if you left it firing too long you'd end up with a glass puddle.
