Nightly Goodnight Everyone

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Dot, you are wicked. You offer up a challenge and I have no hope of doing that one. ;) ;)    xxxx

Ray, The Christmas trees that I am making are slumped glass and yes there are a lot of tricks to achieving the best results. As my biggest kiln is only 30cms in diameter, most bottles are way too big to fit. When I slump plates over a shape, I watch very carefully to stop the firing before the glass becomes too runny (oh it does happen very fast too, around 780degrees C) . I wish I could put up pics here, sorry. I saw a tutorial on the net, showing how they slice off the thick bottom and the narrow tops of beer bottles with a fancy saw. Then they cut a line through the centre of the cylinder and put that on it's side, in the kiln (cut side up) and watch the glass slowly melt and form a perfect rectangle. Glass is certainly fun to work with.

Today I wrapped presents, delivered biscuits to some around the hood and finally got down to my shed after lunch. I had fired up a load of Christmas trees on Sunday and hadn't found time to have a good look at the damage. As I was loading the top shelf of the kiln, I heard a tinkling sound from the bottom layer. It's too risky to shake all the pieces up by moving shelves, so I crossed my fingers and fired it anyway. After expecting to have to repair in a major way, I found only a few tiny bits had moved before they had fused, so a bit of work with a diamond bit on the dremel and nobody will know about my tinkling pieces.

It's hot here again, so will try for some ugly sleep.
Night all xxx
Deborah

Dot, stay cool down there xxxx

We had so much humidity today, that it was clear that we expected a huge storm. When it hit, we were lucky to get out of it with minimal damages.
Anyway, while it was so humid an horrible, we packed the van, the Christmas tree, lights and presents are all in the car, ready for a quick take off in the morning. heading North to Forster, for a family Christmas.

Drive safely and watch out for the crazies...they are everywhere.

sweet dreams everyone,
goodnight xxx

Hope all is well Dot xxxx

Thanks Helen, we is safe.

It was a long drive to Forster and as we got closer to town we could see that Forster was hit by the same storm cell as us. The area looked a lot like it was just after cyclone Yasi in Qld. Trees and lots of strange things were on the ground, obviously the power of the storm was immense. The park where we are staying, was hit hard. The staff were rushing around with chainsaws and trailers full of branches, but by dark, the place was looking a lot better. our site had a large tree branch fallen on it, but all collected and tidied and we are safely tucked up in the van.

An early night is needed here, so nighty night xxx

Wow sounds a rough time up there. Sydney and those hail stones were rippers. Do you have to insure solar panels separately or are they covered by household insurance?? Makes you think about solar in a different way. HTFFBO is moving on tomorrow for Xmas with daughter family but she won't be gone for long I can assure you of that, she is like a bad penny  Watch out Narrung  She got the last of our beaut cherries and also the first tomato we have ever grown. She has me on the stout and lemonade now. Time once again for hitting the sheets so goodnight everyone x :D Goodnight Bruce & Wendy, finally off the bank :D x :D
