I'd be more inclined to just use a small inverter which is useable for other purposes as well if need be. Camera, phone etc.

That's ok if you have room to mount a small inverter, or don't want to move an inverter around for various jobs....

Nothing like wanting to use the inverter for a small job when the wife is watching TV.

This will be built in, low cost, neat and tidy and out of the road

This gizmo is for those who have the problem of not wanting to run 240V to the appliance, or don't have the room to instal an inverter.

I put the post up for people who may be interested in doing the conversion for all the right reasons.

I'm sure that those who travel by air and watch the safety demonstration can think of millions of reasons why they would not want to use the life vest, thankfully the air hostess does not ask the passengers for reasons

and thankyou for sharing it, sorry if we sounded negative, it wasn't meant that way. I sent them an email to see if they sell the set top box already converted in the whole portable kit thing and if so, what was the price, the return email said they are shut till Jan 2013, I'll post up the reply when it comes. I have a friend who was planning on where he was going to fit the inverter for his VAST box, I wonder if he has done it yet, I think he would prefer the all 12v option.

There is a chap/shop in MacKay that has been converting them almost since VAST came out.
A lot dearer though.

Well, I finally received a reply regarding buying the unit already 12v converted, yes, but it's an extra $100, I think the better option would be to do the conversion yourself, then you would still have the 240vac option available if you wanted to swap back or change to a different box but keep the 12v option.

I have 2 inverters in my van. A 600W Pure Sinewave Projecta . Installed in the boot of the van.
That a power cable runs from,to the vans 240V inlet. Which we use to run the washing machine,bread maker etc.
The other is a 150W beer can inverter , that is installed in a cupboard With a 240V cable running to a double power point with a seperate off switch. This is used for the vast and also for a nothing else we want to charge. Without disturbing the vast while on . Things can be charged at the same time .
We also have 2 seperate 12v charge stations . One for the TV ontop of the fridge . And the other behind the U shaped lounge . That charges the. iPad, computer . Internet and Barbs DSI
Everything this we have , we try to have a multi use for. As all here know, living in a van is a compromise
