Dottie,
I suspect the
"sound & fury" of V8s was the reason the attempt to run a European Touring Car Championship round at Bathurst failed dismally after just two events. The third was cancelled at the last minute because Australian motor racing fans stayed away in droves.
I watched the first one. They sounded like sewing machines with a hernia.
The pity is that they bumped the 1000km race to the following (non-long) weekend. Not sure why the 1000 didn't return to the long weekend, but there ya go.
I did stumble upon one of the
Formula E races a few weeks back. Very interesting............. might watch more, provided the
whole series is broadcast on free-to-air TV, unlike F1.
But nothing matches the howl of a dinosaur V8 at full throttle. Be sad to see it end one day.
Maybe
"On The Beach" was prophetic... there will always be
someone trying to go faster than everyone else in a car.
