Today's sport

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

  I have thought that taking photos whilst speeding wasn't very safe. Its always safer to get someone else to take a pic of the speedo.

Stumbled on the British touring cars series racing (Kwik fit), SBS Speed week There are Hondas BMWs Merc's and Toyotas not the same as our V8's with their beautifully sounding motors.

Only saw parts of the grand final we did a wedding yesterday afternoon and was buggered by the time we got home, fell asleep during the second quarter and woke up just after it finished. The wedding was a riot, so funny to watch as they were all out of it in something, including alcohol. Weddings ain't what they used to be that's for sure, but always great to play at.

Dot, have you watched any of the formula E races, all the major manufacturers are running cars in them and they absolutely fly. Saw them up against formula 1 cars on youtube and the Ev's left them for dead, their acceleration is so fast, no wheel spin just full power to the ground instantly, amazing to watch. The V8's never got within sight of them on the track, but the sound of a V8 is pretty cool, just ancient technology.

Watched the first quarter, well between stoppages/ad breaks flicking to more entertaining stuff, seemed very scrappy, missed the second quarter but I think I came in part way through the third quarter and watched all the final quarter, a real surprise even to me  The rough nut with all the tatts and Mohawk haircut, Dusty Martin? played some great fast moving kicks with quite a degree of accuracy ..... 2 players K.O'ed from hits that would have an NRL player shaking it off and playing on if the ref didn't see it and send them off for a HIA (head injury assessment). I'd hate to see what happened to the AFL players if they got hit the way the NRL players belt into each other ....... there would be more stoppages than game and no players left to get a result ...... still don't understand why they have so many breaks either, not fit enough to play out the game in two halves?

Not sure who I want to win tonight, both good teams, but I think I'd like to see the Storm grubbed if the Panthers do win, not just a point from a field goal ...... No matter what, there will be some rather sore players at the end of it and many will probably be expected to play in the State of Origin series as well .... can you imagine the on going aches and pains those blokes must suffer in latter life

Dottie,
I suspect the "sound & fury" of V8s was the reason the attempt to run a European Touring Car Championship round at Bathurst failed dismally after just two events. The third was cancelled at the last minute because Australian motor racing fans stayed away in droves.
I watched the first one. They sounded like sewing machines with a hernia.
The pity is that they bumped the 1000km race to the following (non-long) weekend. Not sure why the 1000 didn't return to the long weekend, but there ya go.

I did stumble upon one of the Formula E races a few weeks back. Very interesting............. might watch more, provided the whole series is broadcast on free-to-air TV, unlike F1.

But nothing matches the howl of a dinosaur V8 at full throttle. Be sad to see it end one day.
Maybe "On The Beach" was prophetic... there will always be someone trying to go faster than everyone else in a car.

The ARDC owns/owned the contract with Bathurst council for the hire of the track on the October long weekend and they would not let the V* Supercar franchise have it. They lost an absolute fortune hosting the rounds of the European touring car championship so it eventually collapsed due to lack of funds.
The 24hr endurance race for production cars would have been the ideal choice as a replacement, I doubt the V8 Supercars would have gained a foothold against the "Win on Sunday sell on Monday" appeal actual cars the general public could buy were seen racing head to head in the different classes.
Qualifying Friday and Saturday, race start 5pm Saturday to finish 5pm Sunday, a real test of cars and drivers where team pit stop speed would be less of an effect but genuine brake changes, genuine wheel changing speed rather than the one nut spin off and the difference in fuel tank capacity making a real impact between pit stops and car handling with 205 ltrs sloshing around in the tank of the old phase 3 GTHO .... Proper tyre development that would trickle down to road cars rather than pure race tyres the general public would never use ..... the list goes on

I’d watch the 24hrs of Bathurst (well, maybe not all of it) on the October long weekend.
Might even plan a trip to The Mountain if I could get a leave-pass from SWMBO (and the border was open)!
I have already watched the start and finish hours when they have been telecast...
