Thought for Today

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Doctors get paid by the gov't
..... but if the patient is willing to pay the same rates as they have for the pet, then they would be moved to the top of the list and probably back out walking around before the pet was out of it's cage .... and treated a lot better pre and post surgery ..... not many pets get a private room with a very low patient to nurse ratio .......

Guess the answer is it pays to have health insurance & not depend on the government health scheme, personally know a fellow who has been waiting over a year for a hip replacement.

Maybe, maybe not ...... cash speaks all languages, insurance always adds a premium to the price charged because they know there will be a wait and possibly a negotiation to getting paid. Offering cash money often sees a discount and a move up the list because they know they have the money in the hand and they have a choice of just what they declare .....

Add up the insurance cost per yr plus the out of pocket additional costs per medical visit and compare that to the medical costs if you paid cash as you go ..... and health insurance doesn't come up all that well in the comparison ...... there are cases that go each way, but I'm certain that wouldn't have a business plan that lost money ......

Again like any insurance it is what it is, it has certainly paid off for us over the years, we wouldn't be without it now, just knowing that we don't have to go on a waiting list for anything is worth it to us but each to their own.

We would not be without our private insurance, my first neck op was over $54k, I was in getting the chop in 4 days after seeing the specialist, goodness knows how much we have saved since having private insurance. Brian also has his private insurance and that is well worth it. Freedom of choice it is called

We had private health insurance… until my cancer diagnosis.
We asked the admissions clerk what the difference would be in cost & care between private & public treatment.
Answer: Same care, but with private health insurance you pay for all prescription medications (I had lots, and some were $thousands/mth) as well as the Drs & get part of the money back for Drs. Prescriptions were full price unless you had a pension card. Also, some treatments were free to public patients, but not covered at all by health insurance.
We went public.
Over 22 years of treatment I was never put on a waiting list for any treatment or specialist appointment, and I have no complaints about the care. We also didn't have to worry about Drs bills.
Fellow patient was on private insurance. His wife was constantly worrying about paying medical bills, and several times paid twice. (No refund, just a credit on the next bill! :( )
Regards & God bless,
Ray

As I said, there are cases that go each way. The savings for the last 26 yrs for the two of us has certainly covered any medical trips so far .... and even if we had to get a loan to cover the medical bills, the $1,000 mth we would have to pay now to get full cover and then all the excess private health insurance doesn't cover ..... a loan repayment would be in the same price bracket ......
Basically, if you add up the health insurance over the last 26 yrs, it comes to around the cash price of our house ....... so ........ add to that, cash talks and a better price can always be negotiated .....
