Thought for Today

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

🤔 Why doesn’t NRL dispense with the goalposts?
The players could injure themselves running into the posts as they plonk the ball on the ground behind the score line.
At least in Victorian Aerial PingPong the ball has to be kicked between the centre pair.
And they get a consolation prize if they miss. 😀
… unlike the round ball game where a miss is a miss; it’s either a goal or zero.

Ray, have you not noticed that after a team scores a try, that's the running about putting the ball down thing, that you describe, they can the score an extra two points, by kicking the ball through those useless goalposts. I think rugby union does a similar thing, but with a different scoring structure.
I suppose that my first sentence is kind of pointless, as you probably don't watch ball sports anyway. :D

David,
TV news bulletins consist of 10~12 minutes of actual news and 20 minutes of sports. Sometimes football is the lead item — meaning even less news.
We’re forced to watch mainly various football codes while waiting for the weather report. In our case with the sound muted, or we switch to Escape to the Country.
I have never seen any footage of a ball being kicked at the goalposts after the bit about plonking it behind the line. It seems that the efforts of the opposing team to prevent the plonking is the focus of NRL, not actually kicking the ball. In fact, all I’ve ever seen has been blokes running with the ball, or passing it on when the opponents close in. No coverage of actual kicking of a ball.
Do NRL players actually attempt to kick the ball at the goalposts at all during all the running around?

I have an idea: perhaps the TV stations could run a full 30 minutes of real news, and devote a separate half hour to sports, for those interested in watching grown men arguing over whose turn it is to play with the ball…

Alternatively, they could run the weather report immediately after the end of the real news, then run all the sports stuff right to the end of the 30 minutes.
That way those not interested could switch to something they would prefer to watch.

Ray, sometimes I wish there was a full time permanent weather station, on free to air TV. I bet you do too.
It's a bit hard to explain NRL.
It's even harder to explain Aussie Rules, as they seem to be having a bit of trouble with the week to week interpretation of the rule book.

I thought the bar across the middle was to help them work out side of the post to aim for.
