Yes they do, often in an opening speech, of what they consider to be of great importance, they use the all inclusive term "My fellow Americans" maybe not so much a word as a phrase

The girlfriend is a bit of a live and let live kinda person. There was a rather large spider in the room and she asked me not to kill it but rather take it out ....... so we went for a meal, had a few drinks and he turned out to be quite a nice bloke .... seems he's into web design .......
