Good morning Dot, you surely hit the nail on the head with age within the club, Jenny was absent recovering from 1st knee replacement then last week shoulder reconstruction, Carol was absent hip replacement last week, her husband had a plate inserted in his sternum last week owing to it not repairing after major open heart surgery earlier in the year, their daughter had come to look after them, Helen did arrive, she fell & broke her humerus in 3 places over 2 weeks ago, Dr couldn't operate & repair same owing to her having extremely low sodium, the decision was made better to leave the arm in sling after so long than operate & start the healing process again at 75years old, couple of others returned after having Covid, then to top the Christmas celebration off, it was booked to be catered for by the club restaurant downstairs, one of the chefs quit & a local firm had the restaurant booked for their Christmas party so the one remaining chef couldn't organise the catering for us, on short notice we had to cater for it ourselves, we do have a small kitchen downstairs near our locker room, so it wasn't the usual merry old time rather somber actually, Ginna whose husband passed that morning did come, she has no children, no siblings, no immediate family, believe she was better there sharing her grief with bowls family than sitting up at home alone.
Hopefully the bowlers are going to have a healthy, better all around new year.
PS
One more Barbara's husband had been hospitalised last week owing to many, many falls, he won't be coming home, he has very advanced dementia, she has no option he will be going into a nursing home, she was feeling sad not being able to continue caring for him.
