Not everyone is a good reader, my best mate and best man at my wedding is dyslexic, a brilliant plant mechanic, but he can't read for sh*tte. He gets paid mega $$ working in the Qld mines and I got him onto audio books, he listens to them travelling to and from work and at night to relax him before he goes to sleep ..... He says it's the best thing ever, conversations no longer go over his head because he now understands a lot of what is being talked about and can join in rather than being on the outside .... it has even helped him follow what the service sheets are telling him rather than watching what others do and then doing the same thing but quicker.
He has reached the stage of following along in the book as he is listening, so the words and letters have a better meaning .... I guess we all did that with our kids when we were teaching them to read and they'd get good enough to know when you were cheating reading their favourite bedtime story
