Shirley,
Missed this post of yours, what were the nasty incidents at four mile rest area. Thought that area would have been one of the safer places.

Re: Where to stay in or near Port Macquarie
Just a few mths ago couple in M.H. stopped to use toilets, when one of them exited the toilets 2 males where trying to break into their M.H. when challenged one picked a rock up & threw it at the lady hitting her, while her partner was seeing to her they broke the window & stole things from the M.H. & then took off into the bush.
There has been several reported incidents at that rest area, only stop if there are plenty of other people already stopped, we never stop there anymore.

Heard of some trouble around Taree generally but not actually at the rest area itself. Similar problem at the rest area/park at the southern end of Kempsey near the bridge. Shame as these incidents really do effect tourism.

Re: Where to stay in or near Port Macquarie
Just an update on where we actually stayed. Due to the Anzac Day holiday, we decided to arrive on the 24th and because of the uncertainty of what additional tests the Specialist might require, decided a CP was the best option. We chose Jordan's Boating Centre and Holiday Park http://www.jordans.com.au/, a very small place with about 15 sites and 10 cabins, which had been recommended on CF and had good reviews on Badgers site. I am no fan of CPs but this spot was great, right on the water, $30 pn powered site and the most spotless facilities I have come across. The manager was very helpful too. We had a lovely meal at the Mykonos Greek restaurant next door. I would thoroughly recommend it. Not sure how a really big rig would go there though.
Cheers

Lesley dare I say that there wouldn't be that many "bigger" than yours! (not talking backsides here either!)did I say that?
A big bus conversion wouldn't be as long as yours but would be higher I think.
A bus with a toad can unhook outside the gates.
Yes, it definately pays to walk & check the site though as I've been directed to park in some rediculous places by park attendants!!
Sounds like lovely place though!
Hope all goes OK for you lot!!

Stayed there myself a while ago in a cabin. Cabins are small but clean if anyone is interested. There was a bloody huge 5th wheeler there when we were there so they do accept bigger than normal rigs.
