Good morning daily

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

This is not a modification of the gas side of the appliance, it is a modification of the 240vac side and no safety items are deleted, just a truly dumb positioning of an on/off switch.

Dave, be very careful replacing the 240vac element with an extra low voltage element . A 12v element won't last long on anything higher than 12v, for a 12v system you are better off to use a 24v element.

A while ago, there were plenty of them available on evilbay, but that seems to have dried up now unfortunately, they were great for balance loads when performing lithium battery servicing for both adding load as the battery voltage dropped to maintain the 0.5C load, and again when charging to 4v per cell to rein in the runaway cells as the max voltage was reached.

Found these on evilbay eBay item number:256673802287 300w 12v but the bridging links can be moved around to create different element combinations to suit a higher voltage. It is only 300w though, so a slow heater compared to the 1500w the 240vac element offers .... I'll be happy to power it via the inverter when the conditions are favourable ....

Used Mr Google to confirm what I though had happened to the Prius, inverter coolant pump short circuit blew the 15 amp fuse that powers the control system that closes the big current circuits inside the inverter.
The Taxi Prius will again become the donor vehicle to get the Silver Prius back on the road ..... A couple of hrs work in a garage, all day out in full sun I'd imagine, not looking forward to it at all ....

Not sure able the sizing of the element required, but I reckon if I could touch base with Dale, Camping Nut from pages now gone, I think he's done a fair bit of research into what works, or not.
Cheers

If you go onto the private lithium forum, Busman details how he built his waste solar water heater on his monster motorhome, he has lots of solar on that rig ;)

Morning all.

Bus is going in for an alignment check after the Mundi trip back in August. Amazing how time flies.

This is the mob that makes cartridges.
https://hiheater.aliexpress.com/store/3242007?

Some people simply turn on the AC power/inverter to draw off excess solar.
Some install a cartridge and power directly from the battery when the SoC is adequate.

I have fitted a cartridge into a water column which thermal siphons when the SoC is high. About 400 w at 24v
