Good morning daily

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

I think your $1000 est is out of date with today's prices.

Just over $1,000 with the 5% discount, but I generally get better pricing than that with my contacts in the trade ......
Why are you using chrome liners, I thought that technology went out with button up shoes ..... Moto Guzi and '60 era Rovers were the last manufacturers I can remember that had chrome bores
These days, the rings are chrome edged and the liners steel, the cast iron ring required for running in chrome bores wear too rapidly and have a tendency to shatter under high load.
The gapless rings we ran in the high boost pressure turbo engines used a chrome edged oil scrapper ring located in a step machined into the lower side of the second ring to stop piston blow by melting a path down the side of the piston, they were cast rings, but the top compression ring were high tensile ductile iron with a moly inlay and chromium coating and oil scrapper rings were stainless with a chromium coating ..... you can't run anything like that in chrome bores ...... chrome on chrome seizes, destroying both the bore and the pistons

Yes, all chinese.

non steel head gasket.
non chromed liners - no mention of the size or grading to suit the block bore. (The isuzu has 3 bore grades/size and the machined size is stamped on the block next to each pot.)

questionable bearings
no information about the piston construction or dish shape/position.
and no real guarantee that things will fit properly.

I could find you a $400 kit if you want.

Why, becuase that's how they were manufactured, and that's how the engine is still running.

Good morning.
I got half the top of the hedge done....then midday happened...I don't do anything after lunch...so I may finish it today... maybe 😁🤔.
Except for a chat with the neighbour... not much else went on...
I'll probably ring the engineer today to check on the progress of the wheel carrier... hopefully it's done...
The other pressing thing for today is...flu shots for her and me 😁.
Carol didn't win... and no new gossip 😁😁
Keep safe.
Bernie.

Good morning everyone. Another fine sunny morn here. No sign of any of that wild weather that everbody seems to be having. The climate certainly seems to be changing.
We have pulled out a lot of fish ferns and stuff to make room for more succulents, can't have enough apparently.
Spent half of yesty shovelling rocks around the garden, on top of some geotextile matting. That was fun.
Today is eldest gkid 18th birthday, so we are off to the c a s i n o this arvo. He wants to play the slaps (new name for pokies according to teenagers) with his nan. I hate the c a s i n o. Hmm.
Nothing much else to report.
Enjoy your engine rebuilding Jon.
Safe travels all those out and about.

Had to space out a naughty word
Cheers

The block liner size was when it was first machined ...... Not something to be proud of, that their machining tolerances were plus or minus the correct size. If you measured the bore sizes now, you would find none of them match the original specs.

Just like the fact the machining was not the best, where the pistons also graded to fit different size sleeves and ring to match.
You seem to be suggesting they had better technology regarding piston and ring and bearing manufacture back when the engine was built than the worlds best copiers do now ...

Having rebuilt a lot of diesel and petrol engines, technology has greatly improved since the days of chrome bores ..... otherwise, they would still be the "go to" technology when you were looking for the best of the best.... wouldn't they?

Only ever play two up at the c a s i n o, always look for the RSL badge on the lapel of the person tossing the coins and the care they take placing the coins on the stick. Bet heads if you see it, tails if you don't see it but they are "of the right age" and don't bet at all if they don't look confident, 3 floaters and the house takes over and the house always wins .....

Played the roulette tables a few times, always came out with more than I went in with, and paid for the food and drinks for the night on top ..... but never a killing, because I never bet of poor odds or bet big, the winning chips went in one pocket after the "kitty" was repaid, and the winnings pocket paid for the night

It's a Star C a s I n o that we are going to. They are already broke, or at least massively in debt to one of the state govts I think.
I hope the young bloke does his dough straight up. He doesn't need to be at the pokies all the time, wasting his money.
I'm sure a young bloke that likes cars can find other things to waste his time and money on.

It's like the machines or those controlling them know a mark when the see one. The machine gives a good pay early, then pays regularly and if they aren't hooked already, they leave in front. The next time they play, they have the expectations they will win and bet bigger, thinking if they had only bet big the first time how much bigger they would have won ...... and they get cleaned out ..... from there, they believe it was their fault they lost because they got carried away with the bet sizes ...... and continue to chase that lost money with even more money for the rest of their life.

I've lost a lot on my money to problem gamblers and watched as the boy was being dragged down the same rabbit hole, but fortunately he was intelligent enough to understand how the system was tricking them out of their money and how desperately they will try to get you back in, with crazy one off invitations to "special events" ..... online gambling offering free house money to gamble with .... not realising that it always belongs to the house, so you could build up a lot of money, only to find you can't access it, but get sucked in again that winning is easy, so they start betting their own money, and down the rabbit hole they go ...... he understood, still gambles a bit, but controlled .... so recreational gambling .... if there is such a thing .......

Thank-you Terry for your insights. However, I'll build it to the manual's standard and expect another 38 years of motoring from it.

I'll let you get back to your angle grinding to make things fit on the trailer.. ;)

 It's your money and effort Jon, I wish you all the best with the project.

I look at these projects with an eye for future expected use against costs to determine what might be value for money and effort.

The V10 repair wasn't to the standard I offer a customer, but to a standard that would get it back on the road for how ever long while I determine running costs over the expected use period and the cost and effort of converting it to a hybrid to save running costs.

The trailer was an error in judgement. But I decided it was better for me to accept the error and work with what I had rather than try to recoup some of my poorly spent money and spend even more getting another trailer built ...... yet to see if it was a wise move, or yet another error in judgement.

I've just finished modifying a cheap V2L for the MG4 that didn't work, into a unit that works as I'd hoped. I paid $25 for the unit, spent $4 on resistors and part of a day that I was stuck inside because of the weather, the result is the motorhome with the rooftop rattler and microwave as well as the fridge and hot water, all running from the MG4 battery. That one I class as a win, the alternative was buying a ready made unit for $750 that would only supply 2200w, this one will supply up to 7kw from the 51kwh battery, with the Victron inverter adding up to 5kva on top, should it be needed. That gives me the power independence I was looking for so free camping was not going to be an issue.

The trailer is now very close to completed and it also works as I'd hoped, not really a win as such there, but it will do what is required ..... just hope it does it without any further issues .......

We each have our own way of tackling a problem, maybe the way I do things aren't the way you would ..... and vice versa .... ;) :D
