This is triggering a lot of downsizing because the pensioners have no way of funding the ever increasing costs.

Insurance will be the big one, especially if they use the postcode as flood risk assessment rather than the fact the house is well above any potential flood, if the water ever got close to that high, it would pour down the highway and drown Adelaide before our house was flooded. Not saying it could never happen, but the resulting damage to infrastructure would make the area unliveable anyway ... so we would be back to living in the Winnie ..... personally, I'd be happy living in Winnie, just a yard and workshop would do me

Haven't even looked at the shed price part till we find out if the house builder can incorporate it into the house build, or even if our ideas are possible.

A rather "interesting" attempted trip to Adelaide. The trip out, filled the radiator before I started, made it to the outskirts of Tungkillo, roughly 23kms, temp gauge suddenly went off the dial, the red warning light that must have been designed and labelled by Microsoft, an oil can and temp symbol in red ..... basically, it's one of these things is wrong .... I think ......
Thought maybe I hadn't allowed it to run for long enough to get the water circulating and there was an air pocket ..... 18 x 600ml water bottles full later (roughly 11 ltrs) it still wasn't full, but it started raining, so I decided to drive a bit further to get the water circulating and get out of the rain cloud ..... 3 kms later, repeat, now I have put 22 ltrs in there, been rained on twice and I was confident that 22 ltrs should be enough .....

I was wrong, whole scenario repeated 3kms later, rain caught up, another 3 kms and I've reached the outskirts of Birdwood and taken 3 hrs to get less than 1/3rd of the way and decide that maybe it might be a better move to head back to Mannum

At about this point, the light bulb moment happened, I came up with the idea of connecting the water fill hose to the tap under the floor above the waste tanks, and run that around to the radiator expansion tank ...... with the motor running, I discovered why I didn't seem to be able to fill the tank, a stream of rusty water started running out beside the Winnie in the dirt drain ..... turn the engine off, water stops running out and I get the tank full. Got 7 kms this time, ended up with the hose looped through the steps, the awning upright and wrapped around the bullbar with enough hose remaining to reach the expansion bottle .... by this time the rad cap was sitting on the floor inside so the hose nozzle stayed in the bottle.

Only another 3 refill stops by the time I reached to hill going down into Mannum, it wanted more water but I could see the street lights from there ..... so it chugged the rest of the way till I parked it back on the slab in the yard .....

Learnt a few things, it definitely uses microsoft warning alerts, the red light that says it thinks it might be one of these things wrong, and the temp gauge suddenly going off the scale, and the engine losing power .... is actually linked to a low water sensor. The computer progressively cuts injectors to avoid an over heat .... until there are not enough cyl still being fuel to propel the rig .... basically enough to get off the road ....

All those times I thought I'd cooked the engine, it was just a low water level alert

I'm guessing it was the water pump seal that finally gave up the battle, the pump progressively got louder and louder and in the end, even with the engine not running, above a certain level, the water still ran out on the ground creating a rusty water stream .....

I'll have to drive Margaret to the hospital from here tomorrow, then on to pick up the lpg tanks, then back to the hospital and wait for the phone call, then drive her back to Mannum .... it was a good plan, just didn't make it into reality ......

Finally tracked down where the water pump is, it has taken 12 days just to get out of the US, it is expected to reach the sorting centre in Australia tomorrow sometime ..... no wonder the place is in a mess, they charge a fortune to send anything outside the USA, and still take 12 days shifting it around the country before they actually put it on a freight plane .... The US postal system make Aust Post look really good ....

An update now on the water pump, ordered and paid for 18/9 .... expected delivery is now moved from 28/9 to 16/10 ..... it would have been here quicker on a refugee boat .... well, as long as they didn't blow it out of the water I guess .... a mth from the US to Aust and costs a fortune, a week from China and free freight ..... I wonder why their whole system is struggling to sell to the outside world?

You would have known that parts for a V10 FORD, that was never commercially released into Australia was always going to be a hard ask. And difficult to locate and expensive. Kinda like the Japanese grey import Coasters.

Still not sure yet, the one on the way to Wollongong was a hole in the top radiator hose, the one before Braidwood was because I forgot to put the radiator cap on, but the water pump was leaking when I reassembled everything after the plugs and coils and top radiator hose and cleaning the radiator water filter. I think the standing since the return from the Wollongong trip may have started rust scale forming on the water pump shaft around the seal area, the 4,500rpm climb up out of Palmer might have taken out the seal completely ...... or it might be a hose leaking, I sure wasn't pulling the engine cover off on the side of the road at 5pm in the rain to find out Just pour water in it and get back home, Margaret was sitting in the car at the workshop yard waiting for me to return ......

As far as seeing the water pump leak, I only know there is a water pump up front there somewhere because I watched a video of one being stripped down on the "I Do Cars" You Tube channel, so I know what it looks like, roughly where it is and that it has one of those left hand thread thermofan couplings on the front of the water pump

There is not enough room for light to penetrate up in that area .... really looking forwards to stripping the trans cooler, air con condenser, power steering cooler, radiator and fan shroud, just to see if I can get in there to get that fan hub nut loose
