Hi Terry,

The fridge came installed in the Motorhome which was manufactured in NZ. Nothing special has been one to it. We live in the tropics and it performs well here. We went around Australia in June/July/Aug and it never missed a beat. Recently did a trip to far NQ and no problems keeping all our food cold.

Hi Norman. We had a 3-way Electrolux but I didn't like it at all. While it kept everything cold it also kept everything near the condensor wet. Replaced it with a 24v 210lt 2-door Waeco. 2 x 4" exhaust fans on the top external vent run from a thermo switch and a smaller fan inside the fridge to circulate cold air and it works like a dream everywhere we have been. We also run a 90lt 240v upright freezer when we need it for extended trips out bush

Thanks Bob, the fewer mod i need to make to this unit the better as unless I raise the roof somehow we won't be keeping it all that long, too hard on my crook neck. It's a good unit otherwise though so maybe a poptop conversion, who knows

Found one here on a Kiwi solar website http://www.independentpower.co.nz/docs/price_list.pdf at the very bottom of the page is a section for Gram products, $950 kiwi, still heaps cheaper than the equivalent 12v unit but dearer than Fisher & Paykel 250 ltr unit out here. Seems they are of Danish manufacture, woner why they are avaiable in NZ but no real net trace of them over here.

As an aside to this I was wondering if you could use a 240V cabinet with separate fridge and freezer sections and connect it to a 12V compressor unit. Of course you wouldn't have any of the 240V fittings like lights etc but they could be replaced with 12V if required. To me, as a non fridge mechanic, I would think that the evaporators in the fridge wouldn't know what voltage the compressor is running at and therefore wouldn't care. If possible to do it would give you the options of any fridge cabinet you could find that suits your setup and still have a highly efficient compressor as well as being able to move the hot parts outside and under the MH to make cooling more efficient.

Anyone have any knowledge if this is feasible?
