Hi Terry, sounds like quite a radical treatment for a fairly serious problem. Let's hope it all turns out well, and even if you can't feel your head, that could be a good thing. Next time Margaret slaps you around the ear, or sticks the boot in, you will be able to just smile at her and say, "that didn't hurt, never felt a thing" a bit like when you tell her you can't hear anything she is saying because your deaf!!!!

Since the shot in the neck I need to wear Cuppa collar to keep the headaches under control, think I might have enjoyed the pain free neck movement a bit too much so now it needs to settle down again.
The nerve burning apparently only lasts for 12 mths, so a bit like the bad hair cut, if it goes wrong it will grow out after while might walk like a chook while it all grows back though

This procedure depends on how long it takes for those nerves to "re connect" I am hoping for 18mths. Called Facet Joint Rhizotomy OR Facet Joint Denervation OR Neurotomy or Medial Branch Ablabation.. They all mean the same thing where the medial branch is destroyed to stop the transmission of pain impulses from the joint to the brain. (if we have one) Before you have this procedure you have the local and steroid injections to diagnose the problem of your pain. IF you get a period of being pain free they know they are on the right track and then you get to have the next step ie the nerve destruction. 12 mths is better than nothing and it can be repeated. End of lesson for today folks.xx

No steroids with mine Dottie, just a local, so it wears off after 2 hrs, but it certainly tells the story if stopping those pain signals will improve the quality of life. I'm all excited waiting for the next lot but he only does them every 2 weeks

The specialist tried moving the 2 injection sites up one vertebrae ti determine whether the correct spot had been targeted, this is just part of the normal process apparently, next fortnight it will be a pr one vertebrae lower than the first site.
This weeks results were another definite result but in the wrong direction. I still had the monster headache but the back of my head went numb as did my upper neck and I got the wobbly boots something shocking, so we won't be burning that nerve out
A result is all we are looking for at the moment and we have had 2 of them so things are going well at the moment. After the next lot of shots the plan is to move to the right side of the neck and repeat the process, when the best positive effect nerves have been determined then both sides will be injected in the same visit to see the effect of that.
The doctor is a little concerned that removing the muscle control sensing from both sides of the neck could have a negative result as the neck is supporting the weight of a bowling ball above my shoulders so a fine level of muscle control is required to achieve this. The advantage of the short term local anaesthetic blocks is the effect is only for 2 hrs or so, not the next 12 mths, so I get to determine what side effects I can live with and what side effects I'm not prepared to put up with, the last lot was a definite no there is no feed back to tell you if the head as reached the back of the chair or head rest, or the pillow, not good.
