I have been parked next to a Winnebago Esperance in Beverly WA, he had the sbs channels and I had everything. So yes it works. It is a cheap and easy fix.

Thanks for the feedback David.

The WinSig is OK, just be aware that you immediately LOSE 3 dB because of the insertion loss. And then it points the opposite way to the main antenna so there is a small loss compared with it pointing in the same direction. And then it requires the space on the roof when the antenna is folded down - I did not have that space, it is taken up by the awning cassette.

David,
We have the Winsig, one of the early ones. Does not affect the winegard at all as far as general up and down motion. We seem to get reception everywhere we have been including Tassie a few years ago. Drop round and have a look if you like, you know where the bus is :D

What type of aerial works with both horizontal and vertical? And does anyone know how to tell what type of signal to expect, especially if you are away from the towns and can't see the aerials on the house roofs?

It looks like I will have to get on the ladder and see how much space I have available to fit a WinSig. If I can fit it $86 postage included isn't that bad, and it will bolt on.
Cheers

Seen lots of these and wonder if I should replace my flying Nun with this one. Apparently you just unbolt and replace the old one with this.
Google did not come up with any result for "Winsig", so have no idea what they are.

Found it, however this has me confused;

"However it does not need a set-top box for WinSig-V2.2 to work."

Otherwise I would have ordered.

EDIT: Oops, originally read that as "does need". So we are good to go with just a bolt up???

I bought the second version of the WinSig...have travelled as high and low, and breadth of Austraia, and as Craig says...it works.
It is not boosted, but the addition of a booster may not benefit much as vertical signals are generally weaker and aimed at a nearer audience than horizontal signals.
If all else fails, satellite.

Does anyone know why we have vertical and horizontal signals in the first place? :?

Yes

oh....you want the reason.

In Australia, so that we can distribute a signal in poor Horizontal reception areas without affecting the signal from those Horizontal signals. This is also the reason that the Vertical signal does not want to be from the same direction as the Horizontal signal and thereby does not suffer a 3db (or any other strength) loss.

To summarise..Horizontal signals in all major metropolitan areas, vertical in all surrounding areas, until the area is no longer affected by the other horizontal signal, so horizontal can again be broadcast.
