The gas lines appear to be plastic coated copper pipes, all good stuff. Kappy, I have had similar problems with the braided gas lines. They looked in perfect condition but the rubber had deteriorated inside causing it to restrict the gas flow. I would start at the bottles and work your way down the line. Regulators also fail regularly :D

As Chuck says, the regulator should be above the outlets from the bottles.

Busman

No plastic gas hose here, the copper lines have been shrouded with poly pipe prior to installation.

I have to believe the guy that said the bottle was full, twas me, 1st thing I checked.

Pull off regulator pulled apart bit of crap cleaned, refitted, still not go.

Will get new regulator seems only about $90, cost me more than that to get gas man out to property before he even looks issue.

In any event I'have new regulator and hoses anyway, piece of mind.

Kappy, I'm no expert, but do think your regulator should be horizontal. A plumber/gas fitter acquaintance told me never put a regulator vertical as crap can build up in it much easier. He may have been handing me a line, but it sounds logical and may be worth a try. the one on our boat was vertical and we had lots of trouble with gas until I turned it into horizontal, but it is a boat and rocks and rolls. I use really cheap regulators which are still going strong 10 years down the track.

Thanks

I wouldn't know about that theory, everyone I've seen has been vertical, doesn't make it right.

I noticed a diaphragm that looked a tad iffy, anyway have a new regulator and hoses on the way.

Will see what is revealed before I arrange a gas fitter out here.

Hi Kappy,

I have my regulator installed in a similar way, vertically, to yours (by gasfitter) however, it is situated such that both the inlet and outlet are above the top of the gas cylinders. Never had a problem.

LPG is dirty and crappy. I've have LPG cars stall because of the dirt. Surprisingly, there are fuel filters on LPG cars and they get clogged.

You will most likely find sintered bronze block type filters in some of the gas fittings and regulator. The rubbish in the LPG will block these but carburettor cleaner in a pressure pack can (Wynns works well) will wash the crap out, same for gas stove jets etc. You can buy a filter and electric shut off valve to mount before the regulator from an automotive gas fitter workshop.
The regulator must be above the top of the gas bottles and either mounted horizontal or vertical with the outlet at the very top, this way the garbage drains back to the bottles. The way it is mounted at the moment it will quickly fill with garbage and fail. In automotive applications where a lot of gas passes through the converter/regulator, they have a drain plug that is designed to be at the lowest point. I have drained 1/2 a cup of brown goo from a poorly service gas system on more than one occasion, left in the atmosphere it sets like jaw breaker toffee and can be smashed with a hammer, not much hope for fine jets and sintered bronze filters when that stuff get in them unless you can dissolve it before it sets or soak it enough to melt it.

Thanks everyone,

Next week should see the arrival of new regulator and hoses.

I need to modify the gas bottle storage anyway as they are not as secure as I would prefer so in that process I will lower the bottles the bottles to get the regulator above the the outlet.

Nothing else on this till the bits arrive.

Been a while, but my new regulator arrived.

Turns out my line is 5/16th and the the new reg is 3/8 so acquired an adapter and connected.

Bummer nothing worked.

Seems I'm a bit of a dummy not turning gas cook-top correctly so it works.

However gas hot water still not working.

My unit is a dometic Gas/electric unit that seems to be standard from what I've seen fitted to various rigs.

There is 2 reset buttons on face of unit, however they don't seem to work ,don't move at all.

Does any one have any experience with these units
